260 remington
« on: January 12, 2012, 09:16:48 PM »
Been over a year since someone last fished for info on 260 Remington so I figured I'd try.  Anybody own one?  Shoot one?  Load it?  Seems like expensive components but it appears to be a 308 based cartridge (of course in 264) but 3win mag zip.  Online there's articles of guys building ar10s with em.  I'm surprised seeing how its gaining popularity in the mainland that not too many people in my circle know about it.  Hoping to get some personal opinion pros and cons.  Thanks.

I don't have one but it sure is popular on the snipers hide for long distance shooting. It looks like a pretty good, flat shooting cartridge that will make the distance to 1000 yards but won't have a lot of power out at that distance. Of course you're probably not shooting anything other than paper or steel, so that's find. Way less recoil/powder/cost than .338 LM.

Personally I would take the .50BMG/.17 wildcat.  I know necking down is a pain, but velocity is king!!

Heavies, I'm sold.  Tossing the 260 idea.  Getting me a 50 Cal press from midway tonight.  Having hard time finding dies though.  And barrels.  Thinking 72" barrel minimum to get Max velocity?  you think ill need a brake?

I'd go with no brake. Thread the barrel 1/2x28 and stick a flaming pig on there. Also, It'll be better with something around 24" so the barrel doesn't flex as much :D

But seriously,  hehe.

Here is a writeup on comparison of .260 Rem, 6.5x47 Lapua, and 6.5 Creedmoor. Pretty interesting read.

I have been tempted to put together something in 6.5mm for LR.
