They should just legalize it.

The fireworks celebration from whole communities this year were much better than the lone aerial show put together by whoever puts it together.
I think, therefore I am armed.

I bet if we had a grassroots National Fireworks Association (NFA) we'd be the state with the largest membership!

Councilmember gives up on fireworks control
http://khon2.com/2017/01/01/honolulu-councilwoman-on-illegal-fireworks-there-is-only-so-much-lawmakers-can-do-to-keep-people-safe/

but not on firearms control and it is a right :grrr:

fireworks is not a right while people will argue about tradition or culture

Funny. I think if there was a TEOTWAWKI people in Hawaii will just light a string of crackers or launch aerials to fend themselves.

or maybe we are like these peeps...zombies wow fireworks

Sad.  :( Prayers for the family.

Now the City Prosecutor Keith Kaneshiro acknowledges the futility of stopping ILLEGAL fireworks but he has no qualms on stpeeing on our 2A rights?

City Prosecuting Attorney Keith Kaneshiro says cracking down on illegal aerial fireworks can be challenging.

“It’s always difficult preventing any kind of contraband or illegal products from coming to Hawaii,” he said, “because we have a very liberal search-and-seizure.”

“My request as mayor is to please enjoy fireworks, get your permit, set off your brand,” said Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell, “but these illegal explosives and aerials are just dangerous for everyone and I wish everyone would follow the law.”

the media sensationalizing things again. A pipe bomb is not an IED. An IED by definition (WTI lexicon) has five components:  a switch (activator), an initiator (fuse), container (body), charge (explosive), and a power source (battery).

Didn't look like fewer in Waipahu and Ewa Beach.  Since the ban there may be fewer of the "legal" type such as string crackers and novelties.  However, the "illegal" type such as aerials and bombs have spiked.  IMHO, because of laws it has made the situation MORE dangerous for the general public, which is usually the case no matter what the subject matter is.
.

I remember the days when the smoke from firecrackers was so thick you had to drive really slowly. Yeah I don't think Arials reduced at all. I hope they make the basic firecrackers legal again, without the ridiculous permit system. Make it simpler, one permit to buy as much firecrackers as u want

Our stupid city should use fireworks to generate money.  I think the news said permits sold was over $400k!!  Have permits for firecrackers, $50, permits for fountains $100, etc.  mr esperro throwing his 2 cents in also about enforcement.
