Is that you loading and shooting at that beautiful range with the bird singing in the background?

I was thinking that same thing about the range. Very beautiful and peaceful! 

Who is the maker of that beautiful smooth rifle?  It's a work of art.

New Jersey, nice rifle!  I just got one and shot it about 2 weeks ago.
Fired 12 shots and remembered to load the powder before stuffing
a ball in it.  Heavies was there and is my witness.     

Rifle was shooting 14 inches low.  Got a taller rear sight from
brownells and it drifted right in, no biggie.  Friend gave me a couple
of maxi ball molds.  Already had a lee minie and a lee ball mold. 

Told a couple friends, ball can be cast simply with a pot and ladle.
So I did just that.  I did sneak a thermometer in the melt though. 
50 cal maxis gave good fill out at 700 degrees, 50 cal lee minies at
750 and 45 maxis at 950.

Still have to figure out how to best position the flints.  Here are some
pics.

But here I am, stuck in the cold nor'east, waiting for the weather to change in maybe 3 months so I can get out and shoot my muzzleloaders and BPCR rolling block and Sharps rifles.

Yeah, my name is Rob and I'm a stoned cold black powder junkie.   

The range in the vids is a public one for muzzleloaders, shotguns and .22's only, located in the nor'west of Jersey, in the rural farm lands.

The smoothbore I'm firing is a Chris Walker custom build .62 bore, acid stained figured maple stock, well patina'd brass furniture, Davis Colonial American lock, hand made trigger assembly.  I load it with 70 grains of Swiss 3F, 327 grain .600 pure lead balls that I cast, and a .015" tight weave cotton patch lubed with "Gato Feo" (ugly cat) patch and BPCR lube that i brew up with beeswax, mutton tallow and paraffin wax.

I have a coupla new guns coming - a Tom Watson "fantasy" .50 flintlock half-stock Hawken with a 36" custom Rice heavy barrel on a figured maple stock, Chambers-Siler Late Ketling lock, Davis DST ... and a Jackie brown .62 "po' boy" smoothbore with a 42" OTR barrel and an L&R Queen Anne lock.  Looking forward to those bad boys.

Sounds so awesome!  Good thing, maybe bad for the pocket, about being up there in the east is the availability of all these rifles, shows, and artisans.   Trying to decide on a style and maker for a build is so mind bending.   Being able to see rifles in person and have originals to look at must make decisions of what one really wants at least a little easier!
