Mahalos for your efforts in contacting him.  I though he was just another gun hating dem; hope he makes an honest push for the bill.

Good stuff.  Never too soon to be writing and calling your reps and urging them to support this!

My legislature critter submitted my suggested change to make CCW into a "shall issue" in 2015.  Problem is the chairmen of the committees that
have to have hearings on gun laws are anti gun and the bills never get past the first reading.  You Oahu guys need to work on getting rid of those
chairmen, because that one anti-gun nut can and will stop all pro-gun legislation.  Our best bet is the Hudson bill in congress, personally I'd donate
time and money to mainland guys to get that law passed.  Hawaiian Democrats are for the most part a waste of time, if you are interested in personal
safety, liberty,  and pursuit of happiness.

I saw online a bill was shot down in 2015.  But I am a new gun owner so I want to do my part as much as I can.  No vote, no grumble...same concept.

Bill has a number. That "(Introduced by request of another party)" MAY be why I haven't heard back from Nishimoto after I offered to help this bill get traction in any way I could. That phrase tends to mean "I'm introducing this as a favor to a constituent in order to get him to vote for me in the future, but I don't really care about nor support the bill". We'll see. Maybe.

EDIT: Is there a reason  that the county-granted concealed carry license validity is expanded to the entire state, while the open carry license is still limited to "within the county where the license is granted"?

HB36

Measure Title:   RELATING TO FIREARMS.
Report Title:    Firearms; Concealed Carry; Open Carry; Licenses
Description:    Amends the criteria for issuance of licenses by the respective county chiefs of police for concealed and unconcealed carry of pistols and revolvers.

Introducer(s):   NISHIMOTO (Introduced by request of another party)

I did tell him that Nevada used to be by county and there are no county signs that let you know you're leaving one to another.  Just the font of the street signs and colors are different.  Where as Hawaii, you have to cross the ocean.

But why the distinction for open and concealed being different?

With all due respect, we should be spending our time and energy fighting the re-registration/insurance bill

I emailed my rep to not support the bill after I left Prime and explained all the bells an whistles that have to happen in order for this to pass.  There was a post on FB in Stolen Stuff Hawaii about a guy writing to Gabbard (father) opposing this bill and how HPD would have to basically be able to register 83 guns an hour in order for us not to be labeled as criminals.  Last time I was at HPD, it took 40 mins to register 7 guns (7 people in line before me).
