I can't find it now, but someone posted a pic with an ammo can with a note on top of "Open in case SHTF" and the pic below was the ammo can open, with nothing but a safety pin inside the ammo can.  Took me a second, but then laughed.

Best way to do a purchase like that is to do a group buy other retailers in fishing, mechanics, collectors, etc who can sell it in their field and not compete with you.

The more standard sized cans like the 9mike, 5.56 and .50 cal cans go for a good bit more than others.  The bad thing is that the smaller "lots" of cans go for a lot more money because people don't want to deal with several pallets and hundreds of cans so the prices go way up.  You really need to buy in bulk to get good pricing on these sized cans.  I purchased a couple plus pallets of 40 mike mike cans for a good price and the tall cans are usually very reasonable.
