Lead bullets for 9mm

I have a chance to pick up some 9mm 125gr hard cast RN from Rocky Mountain Reloading 1000 for $66.00 + $3.00 insurance ( optional) and free shipping to Hawaii. Per their ad on the website these are tested to a brinnel of 18 and are pre lubed. The gun I'll be using is my SA 1911 EMP 4 Commander and my SW SD9VE. Do you guys see any probs shooting these thru the 1911? Never used hard cast in 9mm but pretty much use it exclusively in my 1911A1 Kimber Stainless Targwt without any problems. Appreciate the assist.... :geekdanc: ;D

Diameter has to be big enough to grab the rifling or it will skip down the bbl and fly sideways.
I've seen it happen numerous times.
Try unique powder if you got any.

Been using 147grn 9mm coated lead from SNS Casting.  No leading, no smoke, great accuacy, easy cleaning.  It is a liytle more expensive than plain lead, but the easy cleanup of the barrel and no gunk on the seating die easily offsets the small added cost.  Good stuff IMHO.

Bullet diameter is .355. Me thinks that's too small. Have noticed lead is .356 if memory serves me correctly. Yup got two bottles of Unique.  :D

Hmmmm interesting! Never shot 147gr in my 9mm. How's recoil compared to the124gr? Would imagine it would be less snappy. What powder do you use! SNS seems like a good source. Do they charge shipping? Notice they charge tax. Have you ever tried the "red" coated fodder? Sorry for all the questions...  :D

the heavier the bullet, the lighter the recoil

I use 147gn for my SD ammo, so I wanted a similar load for practice.  Also, I was contemplating using this for getting into competition, so less (snappy) recoil is a plus.  I never chronographed the load, however, it "feels" about right to me and POI is the same as my chosen Winchester Train and Defend "D" defense ammo.

The reloads, and defense ammo,  is subsonic so it is a little less loud. I don't think the color of the coating matters much. They don't have the red coating on the flat point bullet profile.  I wanted the flat point profile because it's shape is very similar to the shape of the hollow point. The coating is said to make the bullets more slick in the barrel so higher velocity, lower pressure, and less powder is required for any given specific velocity requirement.

I deburr the case mouths to keep from shaving the coating when reloading, however, If I get lazy, don't deburr, and it shaves a little bit of coating, it doesn't show any effect of the loads, target, or cleaning the barrel, as far as I can tell.

I'm using 3.2 grn of Bulleye, and what ever cheap small pistol primer, currently CCI.   They charge $15 Priority Flat rate, I can remember if I requested that specifically. They don't charge tax.

Went to the range today to try some of my new loads for my 9mm. All I can say is "yike" they were good. Thanks to everyone, especially Heavies who gave me his load data and some 147's, my SA 11 EMP4 commander was dead on. Recoil was more of a push than a snap and it grouped beautifully. Only prob I had was the the COL of the 147's. Had them set and 1.164 and were a little long for the mag. they fit but a little on the tight side. Will be setting them in a couple of thousand and that problem should go away. Also tried some revamped loads  my 115gr FMJ on top of WIN231 with great success. more snappy than the 147's but still nice. Primers looked nice with zero signs of over pressure. Both my SA1911 and SD9VE ran smooth with no complications whatsoever. I'm a happy camper.
Thanks so much for all the advice. Who say you can't teach an old dog new tricks!  :worship:  :geekdanc: :shaka:
