Oregon Reporter Convicted for Drawing Gun Against BLM Mob Attack

Oregon. Hawaii. Wherever. One Progressive Authoritarian Statist Hellhole or another. "Our" "justice system" at work, using "our" tax dollars, to convict "us" of "illegal" self-defense (without ever having even put a finger on the trigger).   :wtf:

Article includes link to more extensive reporting and an option to donate online to the appeal defense.

Excerpts:

By now many of you know that Mike Strickland, a pro-gun, freelance journalist was convicted of  21 counts of self defense on Friday, Feb.10.

Strickland had been attacked by a mob in Portland while covering a "Black Lives Matter" protest. The attack was planned and coordinated in advance.

In truth, Mike was convicted the moment he was arrested by Portland Police for defending himself against the same kind of mobsters who have trashed Portland repeatedly.  Their criminal actions are rarely punished by a county "Justice System " that encourages rioting and looting but creates political prisoners of people who attempt to defend themselves from criminal attack.

From the moment he was arraigned it was clear the fix was in. As soon as the D.A.'s office in Multnomah County realized who Mike was, they began to assure he would never get a fair trial. And they succeeded.

* * * * *
If ever there was a clear cut case of self defense, this was it. But a leftist, activist judge in a leftist county decided to ignore the facts and the law and condemn Mike for doing what any rational person in his position would have done.

Multnomah County has sent a message loud and clear. If you riot, attack people and destroy property, you will be protected. If you try to defend yourself from criminals, you will be convicted and jailed. It is simple insanity. What Judge Ryan and D.A. Underhill have said is this. "If you come to Multnomah County and a gang of thugs attacks you, lie down and take the beating. If you are not killed, you will be better off than if you defend yourself and we get ahold of you."

Because of many generous donors, OFF was able to contribute generously to Mike's defense. Now we have no choice but to appeal. If we don't, no one is safe and a precedent has been set for the rest of the state. Politically motivated judges and D.A.'s can ignore the law with impunity. We will sink into anarchy.

That is why I no longer travel to any state on the CONUS that does not honor a NV, AZ, or UT non resident CCW permit.  Unfortunately I have to live in a leftist liberal state.  On the bright side I get to go to NV for a week next month to see the grandkids and legally carry a concealed firearm.  Bummer is I won't have time on this trip to go to Front Sight again.
Happily living in Puna

Makes my blood boil.
Isn't this something the NRA could help with in some way?  The NRA has enough money and access to legal clout to help with appealing this and 'correct' the judge in how to interpret self-defense according to law and our constitution. Any kind of injustice like this that draws attention should be something the NRA takes seriously.  Law abiding citizens shouldn't be crucified for defending themselves.
Promoting 2A is one thing. Protecting those that exercise it should be equally important.

Prior to reading this I just saw youtube videos of the incident.  I thought this guy was an idiot getting into the situation, pulling a gun on people that didn't seem to be violent, and not trying to flee the area.  The article posted here presents a lot of information that I didn't know about and changes my view on things.

I still wonder why he holstered his gun before he left the area.  If I was fearful of my life, I would have dropped everything I was carrying and kept my gun out until I left the area and felt safe.

I concealed carried for many years in Washington state whose laws are very similar to Oregon.
#1 rule is to avoid pulling out your weapon.
#2 If you do pull it out, use it!  Anything else is brandishing and the law will
come down on you hard.  You should be way past talking . If you feel you need
to show your weapon, you must use it or risk it being taken from you and used
on you.  If you don't shoot  it demonstrates you weren't really afraid for yours or
someone else's safety.
#3 If the threat is stopped get out of there.  Let the cops clean up the mess.
#4 Have a lawyer on speed dial.  Call him before you contact or talk to the police.
#5  Never talk to cops!  They are not your friend!

This Oregon guy screwed up and should have been home for Post corn Flakes.
