Be careful that "someone" doesn't tell you that you're not sensitive enough and that the poor cartels deserve to be treated better.

Pfff I'm over it brah, I could care less about there opinions. Like I said "One man with One mans opinion" this is what I have to say about that.

Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was gunned down with weapons sold to a straw purchaser in Operation Fast and Furious. Originally, two Fast and Furious weapons were said to have been found at the murder scene, but there has since been evidence that a third weapon, also tied to Fast and Furious, was found there too. However, it’s very existence still being covered up by the FBI. So we’ll just say “at least two” Fast and Furious weapons were found at the murder scene the night that Terry was killed.

At approximately 10:30 on the morning of Saturday, March 27, 2010, Krentz sent a radio transmission to his brother, Phil, in which he reportedly stated, "I see an immigrant out here, and he appears to need help. Call the Border Patrol." This was his last known transmission; after hours of radio silence aroused suspicions, he was found in a remote section of the ranch. Both he and his dog had been shot and had died from their wounds. Krentz had not been robbed, and in fact his gun was still in his holster. After being shot, he had lived long enough to return to his ATV and attempt to escape, but had lost consciousness and died before reaching safety.

Footprints at the crime scene led to the Mexican border,  illegal immigrants was responsible. Subsequent investigations by the Cochise County Sheriff's Department continued to focus on a Mexican suspect, but suggested that the killing was non-random, that the perpetrator may have been a illegal immigrant scout for a smuggling organization, and noted that the day before the murder, federal agents had arrested 8 smugglers and seized 250 pounds of marijuana on the Krentz ranch.

I always wondered why we don't have U.S. troops policing the border. I know the military isn't supposed to do LE for U.S. citizens... but protecting the border is ~exactly~ the kind of thing a standing army would do.

The border patrol agents definitely need help.

I know first hand that drug runners have no respect for law enforcement or human life.

They'll gun you down with no provocation.

I'm with both of you.  I'd happily volunteer for an IA tour to Texas or Arizona.  Defending the borders is pretty much the exact job description of the US military.

There are armed us troops out there. The National guard assigned to the counter drug task force. Their primary role is intell and they report their location to boarder patrol who comes it and does the arrests. The national guard is not subject to the posse comitatus act.

I've been a pretty vocal hater of the AK-47, but this guy made the right choice for a semi-auto rifle.  Since I do all my shooting at the range, I don't care as much about the reliability advantage of the AK, and the accuracy tradeoff is something I wouldn't be able to put up with.  But if I was a rancher in dusty south Texas, and I needed a rifle to ride with me in the truck, on the four wheeler, moving cattle, driving tractor, all day, every day, and still go bang rightf***ingnow when I need it, I'd go AK all the way.

Best quote from the article:

"He says there’s only way to react.  “Fire all the rounds you have, reload, and do it again,” says the rancher."

I'd be willing to bet that without scopes, I can hit a 8" gong at 100 yards just as many times as any AR.

True, but 8MOA, or even 2MOA is unacceptable for me if I'm shooting off a bench.  Here in sunny HI, whatever rifle I choose will be lathered with loving care, stored in a low-humidity gun safe, and cleaned to spotless perfection after each relatively rare outing.  But yes, if I was going to sling a rifle over my shoulder every day, I'd probably take the AK.

Dumping more money into the drug war has never worked in the past, so why would it work now? Putting soldiers on the border just means we live in a police state.

Securing the border has never even been attempted before, not in a manner that stands a chance of actually working.  And securing the border does not make a police state.  Many other things that we are doing contribute to a police state, but keeping illegal immigrants and drug mules out of the country isn't one of them.
