Just moved back to the island.

Howzit, 2aHI,

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to the 2aHI community. The family left Mililani shortly after my father decided to retire. We landed in Dallas, TX and I've lived there for the last decade. The opportunity in our careers came up that would allow us to move back, and my bride and I jumped at the chance. You cannot help but be immersed into gun culture in Texas. All one has to do is drink the water and <poof!> your wallet is significantly lighter and you own a small (but nice) arsenal. Givin all the political circus activies in IL, CO, CT and CA, needless to say I was glad to find this forum with similarly enthusiastic individuals in HI.

Being new to the forum, I didn't want to start posting questions into the wrong areas. I located the on-line maps from the State Land with marked areas for hunting. I had some questions regarding shooting (and the legalities there of) on public hunting lands. \Hunting? \Legal ?

thanks in advance,

Hi Pew! Pew -- welcome back to Hawaii and welcome to the forum!

For hunting, you would best contact the Hunter's Education program on all your questions regarding hunting.   The volunteer instructions for the Hunters Ed classes are very helpful and knowledgeable.

http://dlnr.hawaii.gov/huntered/

You'll need to get your license; the classes are free.  Even though the classes are filled, go 1-2 hours prior to the class to get on their waitlist.  There are always no-shows to the classes because the anti-hunting groups always sign up to fill the class but never show up.

I think, therefore I am armed.

If you have a valid TX hunters ed card you can file for an exemption in lieu of taking the Hawaii hunters ed course to purchase a hunting license.  However a recognized out of state hunters ed course certificate does not qualify for the Hawaii State requirements for a permit to purchase a handgun.
