Two House Democrats have introduced legislation that would require federal background checks before buying unassembled firearm kits and unfinished receivers.

The measure, entered as H.R. 1278 last week, would amend federal law to consider firearm kits to be firearms.

The measure, co-sponsored by Illinois Democrat Brad Schneider, would add the broad definition of “any combination of parts designed or intended for use in converting any device into a firearm and from which a firearm may be readily assembled” to the definition of what constitutes a firearm under federal law.

So "any combo of parts".  So if I buy a barrel 1 week, then a trigger the next, I would have to take both to HPD to register it.  Then if I buy a gas tube 1 month later, again have to go to HPD to register it?

I would hope that with the solid Republican majority in the house that such a bill as this, or any kind of "gun control" would be DOA... however it certainly seems as if the GOPe is doing everything they can to maintain control by the UniParty, and maintain the swamp. See, for example: Obamacare "repeal and replace" bill criticised by Mike Lee, Rand Paul, Heritage Action, National Review, and Ann Coulter, who put it succinctly "Who wrote this piece of crap?".

Hopefully. Kinda surprised the Bloombergies haven't tried to get this going at more state legislatures. I guess their focus is still "universal background checks" (aka "lend a gun to your cousin universal transfer costly financial transaction law"). Maybe next year.
