We've been bent over the table again.....
« on: March 15, 2017, 04:06:17 PM »
Heard this morning that on April 1st amazon will be adding tax to purchases destined to the PRH. Hell, it's our fault. 85% of the people here are frigging ignorant and keep voting the same democratic self serving scum into office, not to mention the shit hole governor. Called my reps, senators and the governors office and told them what I thought of this latest money grab ( also placed letter in the mail this morning). I'm steamed but will be cancelling my prime when the subscription is up. Will never order from Amazon again. F them! :wtf:

I share your frustration and anger, but don't take it out on Amazon.  It's the a$$hole dumbocrats here.  They only know how to tax and fee us to death.

True but Amazon could have told them to pound sand. Don't think the butt hole politicos could have forced Amazon to do anything or force Amazon to to give them anything. IMHO Amazon caved but I may be wrong.... :shaka:

Nah legally amazon had no choice.  Well they had a choice but it would basically be giving away company secrets (buyer list)

I don't get it. If Amazon doesn't have a physical presence here in the State, then they're not required to collect sales tax. Plus Hawaii doesn't have a sales tax but has a GET instead.

Regardless, I watch enough videos on Amazon Prime to make the $99 per year worth it. The sales tax will just make me try cabelas.com  or others more often.

Hmmm under what law would they hav been subject to? Federal? There would be no binding state law that I can think of that would force them to release buyer lists. Hawaii could not ban them from doing business here. Interesting...

According to the Department of Taxation: “The use tax equalizes the tax on a transaction by requiring those acquiring goods (for example, cars, clothes, jewelry, computers, equipment, etc.) from out-of-State sellers to pay a tax at the same rate that an in-State seller would have paid in general excise tax if the sale had occurred in Hawaii.”

Amazon CEO just got a $600 million contract to help CIA spy on American citizens with no warrant. They don't mind collecting taxes because the money goes right back to them anyway. Cha ching.
Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

Ok understand but how can the state force a company not located in Hawaii to do this?  Take them to court? I think Amazon could have told Hawaii to F off and let the courts decide! Gotta be more to it than just a dumb ass law written by some stupid pond scum politicians and thier minions. The real test would be if this state law could stand on its own in court. Just sayin.... :shaka:

It's a technical services contract.  Being paid to "help CIA spy on American citizens with no warrant" is a major stretch!

Worst case scenario they make a new law.

Amazon is very convenient, but don't forget about Ebay and they don't charge GET.
Just for fun try to pay the GET on a out of state purchase and see all the people laugh at you.
They don't know how to do it so that you are protected and get credit for being a law obedient idiot.
Laws here are written by Imbeciles. and enforced by thugs, so do what you think is best.

Ok sorry if I sound stupid but other than a lawsuit (and the PRH wins) how can Hawaii force Amazon to charge the GET? They are not located in Hawaii and if the state were told to F.O.A.D., then what? All the shippers (UPS, FEDEX, USPS, etc), which have a presence here, could refuse to ship here? On the CONUS end start screening packages for anything bound for Hawaii and "return to sender"? I can't see how Hawaii can enforce and unless there is a Fed regulation, it would have to become a court issue. My apologies but I despise the Big Brother, crooked shenanigans of the vermin that have thier hand in my wallet to fund thier own little agendas.  :worship:

From my understanding hawaii can tax the buyers of the products.   Amazon will have to give them the list of buyers for the state to go after these people.  They don't want to do that.

Amazon to charge tax on purchases made in Hawaii starting April 1st

For anyone bad-mouthing Trump's support of tariffs to even the playing field nationally between trading nations, they should also be against this.  The whole reason for this is to increase the cost of goods coming into the state so Hawaii retailers can compete.

That, and to help pay for the rail ...    ???

Tonight Fox News Bret Baier addresses Honolulu rail fiasco, wasting tax payers money.  Maybe Ige and Kirk will ask China for the money.
