Anyone join this? What are the cons or downsides if any to being part of this and how easy is it to quit? I know that they spread the word to neighbors of crimes committed in your area which is a good thing but I don't want to join something like fb, twitter or similar.
I just got an invitation to join my neighborhood's group, however the envelope did not have a return address and was postmarked from zipcode 56303 (St. Cloud, MN) instead of a local zipcode.
Is it worth it? All depends on how active the members in your neighborhood group are.
There is an HPD crime map that you can filter for date, address, etc. That's pretty much the same info. The difference is, this network can get the word out much quicker, add details, and respond to questions.
I've seen reports of unfamiliar cars cruising through nearby neighborhoods as if they are checking out houses or cars. Others reported homeless walking down the street looking in car windows and pulling on door handles.
The company is based in San Fransisco. If you're getting mail from MN, it might be a marketing company. Only a guess.
You can sign up and try it out. It's only as annoying as number and timing of notices you set on your account.
You can deactivate your account anytime, and if you linked to your FB account, you can unlink it anytime as well.
