Not sure if this has been posted

I wonder if the mental health numbers include denials that were eventually approved due to the Kaiser/Straub mess?

Im sure Kaiser/Straub rejections were part of the applicants giving "false" information.

What the report should show is the exact data for rejected reasons. Criminal, medical, Kaiser/Straub paperwork

After reading the article, I would think that we have an increased amount of bad people trying to apply for permits so common sense is more strict laws!

If the permits were denied, then the system must work!  No new laws required.

I didn't realize that medical marijuana will disqualify you. What happens if it becomes legal for recreational use? I guess the rejections will increase to 100%.

I guess you haven't applied for a Hawaii permit or purchased a firearm from a dealer.

There's a whole separate form you have to acknowledge reading when you apply for a permit with Hawaii police.  It states you may be denied a firearm permit for use of Marijuana even if prescribed medically.

The Feds still have pot on schedule 1, so no matter what the state does, it's illegal to use based on federal law.  When you fill out ATF Form 4473 at the gunshop, the front has this:

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Yeah.

Carry from the house to the truck.

Carry from the truck to the range target area.

Carry back to the truck.

Carry back into the house.

Carry to/from the airport.

And always unloaded and cased.  :(

Hawaii County registered almost twice (1.85) as many firearms relative to total population as Honolulu C&C. Also had 4 times the denial rate (3.2% to 0.8%). That must mean something...

I defy anyone to present anything remotely resembling a rational evidence-based argument as to why cannabis users (either medical or recreational (talk about the absurdity of "government permits"!)) should be denied the ability to keep and bear arms, while all those people knocking back alcohol (some on a daily basis) may exercise the right without government threat. Keep in mind that at least a few of the guys who wrote and signed the damn Constitution apparently consumed cannabis... wonder what they'd have to say about the state and federal ban laws? Not that any government bureaucrat/politician in Hawaii would care in the slightest what the Founding Fathers said or meant...

Quote
There were some 53,400 registered firearms statewide last year. That's a 14.1 percent jump in registered firearms in the state since 2015.

As the number of personal firearm grew, so did the number of processed firearms applications.

Statewide, 21,408 personal firearm permits were processed, which is an 8.4 percent increase from the previous year.
Math not being my strong suit [sarcasm], anyone know the facts behind the difference between those two numbers.  About 32k more firearms that are "not personal"?  Are those guns registered when FFLs bring them in?

One is permits, one is gun registrations. You can buy more then one gun with a rifle permit and people bring guns into the state without a permit being obtained.

No math involved :-)

Ahh.  Got it.  Thanks!

Missed that part and didn't think about a long gun permit being a "parent" for multiple registrations.  And difference between permits and registrations.  That and all the long guns when Sports Authority closed.

And they used snuff spiked with a "white powder". When stationed in RI my wife and I went on a tour of a snuff mill where the guide mentioned that cocaine I believe was added to the mix. Truth??? Only our leaders of old know lol.

When I renewed my last long gun permit the HPD officers made a nig deal about it when I was signing saying that I "DO NOT USE". They asked again while I had pen to paper and said they WILL find out if you do. I reckon they were having fun with me. Crap I'm in my 70s and retired military.
