Trump to Announce Slate of Conservative Federal Court Nominees (Read 3730 times)

A LOT of "activism", and ALL "legal" (obviously) depend on court/judge actions. As we've seen repeatedly in the Ninth Circuit, the final resting place for any Second Amendment lawsuits attempting to restore our rights to lawful status, the judges, in the majority of cases, make decisions based upon their political views, and then shoehorn those into whatever legal jargon will "support" those political views. There are over 120 federal level judicial vacancies, and I'm surprised it has taken this long for Trump to make the first nominations. From the N Y Times article below I have excerpted the hand-waving hypocritical criticism by a liberal thinktank head who fails to mention how for 8 years Obama packed the courts with his nominees with little to no resistance from Republicans, save for postponing the SCOTUS appointment. We need Trump to get these people nominated and approved ASAP so things can start to turn around for Second Amendment advocates. Unfortunately there aren't enough openings, nor will there likely be even if Trump remains for 8 years, to change the balance in the Ninth... we're stuck with depending on an eventual new SCOTUS balance to remedy to the Ninth decisions that will always oppose keeping and bearing arms.

Excerpts:

Having filled a Supreme Court vacancy, President Trump is turning his attention to the more than 120 openings on the lower federal courts. On Monday, he will announce a slate of 10 nominees to those courts, a senior White House official said, the first in what could be near monthly waves of nominations.

But liberal groups expressed alarm at the prospect of a federal bench filled with Mr. Trump’s appointees. “The Trump administration has made clear its intention to benefit from Republican obstructionism and to pack the federal courts with ultraconservatives given a stamp of approval by the Federalist Society,” said Nan Aron, the president of the Alliance for Justice, referring to the conservative legal group. “We’ll be scrutinizing the records of these nominees very carefully.”

If this doesn't make the left's heads explode I don't know what will.

Just in case there are any (other) court/legal nerds out there... the judicial vacancies can be tracked at:

http://www.uscourts.gov/judges-judgeships/judicial-vacancies

There are links to the upper left of the page where you can view the individual vacancies. Currently there are 4 vacancies on the 29 member Ninth Circuit Court of appeals. Two of those were supporters of Second Amendment rights, most notably Judge O'Scannlain, the author of the original three-judge panel decision which struck down California's "good cause" requirement for CCW (later overruled en banc with a decision that there is no Constitutional right to concealed carry, so the states can do whatever they want to "regulate" it, including ban it).

So even if Trump were to promptly appoint 4 pro-rights judges, and they were confirmed, it would still leave the Ninth Circuit approximately 21-8, 22-7 top heavy with the anti-rights ruling judges (which includes 10 Clinton and 7 Obama appointees). We've got a long way to go in the Ninth... that's why I believe our best hope is Trump filling two more seats on SCOTUS, which will then have the votes to consistently override the anti-rights Circuit Court of Appeals decisions.  :geekdanc: :shaka:

Since all needed to appoint a Fed judge is a simple majority, there is no way the Dems can stop any appointment unless some Repoblicans vote with them.

One of my best friends was going after local judge positions.  I asked if he was interested in federal level, but he wasn't at the time.  He's very much pro-2a.  I should talk about this with him next time I see him.  He also has a few friends that could potentially be "in line" for positions like this, but they are married with young kids and I think their interests are headed toward management and CEO/COO type positions than staying in the legal system.

Filling fed judgeship positions and SCOTUS is one of the main reasons why I voted for DJT.   I hope by the end of 2018 he appoints 2 more SC justices to replace Kennedy and Ginsberg.
