Why the big fuss? It's their movie. One can decide not to patronize it if they don't like it.
I remember Jerry Lewis stereotyping and playing Chinese characters.

Being of Hawaiian ancestry, this kind of pisses me off.
Really?  This is 2017.... Not 1930.

Yes
Or at least somebody that resembles a Hawaiian. Or maybe somebody with brown eyes.
Might as well cast Zach McGowan as Martin Luther King too.

From a  movie producer and financial standpoint, I understand the odd choice.
To get an audience they need a big name and the appropriate ethnic choices are few.

They could at least have used a Polynesian.  Dwayne Johnson maybe?  Not Hawaiian but at least he is Polynesian.  He is a big name.

The movie will be shot in Malaysia.

The production company was quoted as saying that because it is a true story, the material requires utmost care and authenticity.

Cast whoever they want that's freedom.  People are too sensitive nowdays.  I mean people can self identify as an attack helicopter in "current year".  If people don't like it don't see the movie.

It might be the first time the entire audience gets gagged watching "Deep Throat!"

When I read this story it complains that he is white and not even polynesian. When I looked deeper I couldn't find anything that actually mentions his racial makeup so are they guilty of just assuming he is white?
