Medical Kits - What's In Yours? Where Do You Buy Supplies? (Read 29612 times)

What's in your medical kit(s)?  And where do you buy supplies?

I have a kit in my range bag, one in my car and a real basic one that I have in my work backpack.

Some real basic things I have in the kit are gauze and elastic bandages.  I also have Israeli (or similar) bandages in some as well as hemostatic gauze/pads in others.  I have a chest seal and nasal airway in the range kit that came with a complete IFAK as well as the car kit.  The range and car kits have basic stuff like bandaids and athletic tape.  Those are the items that get used most often.  Most kits have shears and nitrile gloves.  The range kit and car kits have CAT tourniquets as well.

I've been shown the proper use of items like decompression needles and nasal airway, but I generally don't have those items in my kits.  I thought about getting those to have them available for use by personnel trained to use those items, but haven't really yet.

Some of the sites that I've been buying medical supplies recently:

http://www.chinookmed.com/

Lots of good stuff and easy to find what I wanted and at good prices.  However, shipping can be pretty steep.

https://www.liveactionsafety.com/

Pretty good prices and what I wanted.  Decent shipping.

I have been avoiding Amazon for medical stuff because of concerns on quality.  Some EMT/medic friends said many vendors are ok as long as the codes are correct, but many times I found that the prices weren't lower than other online vendors.

I've shopped at shopmedvet.com.  They have TONS of stuff, but site seems tougher to navigate to find items, at least for me.

I have a kit from Dark Angel Medical.  Others companies that I was referred to include ITS Tactical and North American Rescue.

One thing that I am wary of is rotating items that are left in my car kit since my car is parked in the hot sun where I work.

I use Medical Gear Outfitters (Skinny medic).  I mainly used them for my TQ's and verified with North American Rescue that they are an authorized distributor.

In my med kit are the following:

1) CAT TQ
2) Celox granules
3) 2 Band-aids
3) Athletic tape
4) 4X4 gauze
5) Israeli Bandage

I want to add combat gauze soon for wound packing.

In my car, I have the following:

1) 2 CAT TQ's
2) Quick Clot
3) Israeli Bandage

One more thing that I forgot to add was all kits have duct tape.  Some have a small roll.  Some have a flat section that is about 3 yards (I think).

That plus having come across fake or poor/cheap quality stuff on Amazon lately has me wary of purchases, especially for items like these.

Another thing that spurred looking for medical supplies lately is that a family member is on blood thinners, so I wanted to be sure to have supplies on hand for them.

Why is that particular pouch itself so expensive?  They have similar sized pouches in complete kits for the same price.

Not questioning your choice of pouch, but just wondering if there's something special about that particular pouch since they have other pouches that are about half the price.

There are pouches from places like Dark Angel (DARK Gen 4) and ITS (FatBoy) that are about the same price or more, but those pouches seem more specialized.

I had heard of the company before.  Was checking out their website and they seem to have pretty good stuff.  If they have free shipping on most/all orders, I might have to check them out more often.

I got a same size pouch from Amazon for $14.  It also has the First Aid patch in velcro.  Molle straps are the same as skinny medics one.

https://www.amazon.com/Orca-Tactical-MOLLE-Medical-First/dp/B015QHZBEG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495742046&sr=8-1&keywords=med+pouch

Mines is red, but amazon has them in other colors also.  But I'm not in the bush so don't have to worry about blending in to the background.  That's why I got the red one so people can clearly see its a med kit.  I put it on my plate carrier when at the range and in my gym bag when at the gym.

There are a lot of those pouches on Amazon.  However, I've also come across a lot of cheap crap items lately on Amazon, so I try to stick to known quality manufacturers at least if I am going to buy from Amazon.  While I a med pouch isn't likely to need to hold up to abuse of something like a daily backpack, I've seen cheaper pouches and bags where the seams and zippers give way pretty quick.

I have one from Chinook and it was about $10.  It was a non-Berry compliant version, which was fine for me.

For pouch size med kits, I got a ATS and a ESSTAC pouch from SKD.  The ATS is the pull away type on a battle belt setup.  I used to have the ESSTAC on a gunbelt for my 12 ga. or 1894C , but decided to streamline the belt and placed the blowout pouch on a possibles bag strap.  However the belt carries a TQ in a double taco pouch.  ATS has more stuff including for booboos, but generally has gauze pads, tape, TQ, Celox, compression bandages, shears.  The ATS only has compression bandages, Celox, gauze pads, tape.  Keep an extra TQ on the side pouch of the possibles bag.
My group kit is in a range bag bought from ebags.  Attached a front pouch to the outside for extreme blood loss situations and a side pouch for booboos to keep from having to rummage inside and disturb the items segregated in ziplock bags.  Also keep a Casio digital watch and a small light on the outside of the range bag kit.  Keep OTMs bought from Longs, Walgreens, Costco, Walmart in a plastic toolbox staged with the range bag kit.

Made in USA!

I was looking for primarily function/size and good quality for the two pouches that I currently have for my car and a misc kit, but didn't pay attention much to origin.  Though one pouch that I had that was non-Berry compliant (fully USA sourced), was about a third of the price of the Berry compliant pouch.  For that kind of pricing, as long as it's good quality, I'm going to go with the less expensive.

Both the ESSTAC and ATS look like great pouches, but I really like the ATS one.  Both are on sale this week at SKD and their 15% off site wide sale.

Cost of med supplies add up quickly.  Good to rotate out slowly.  Before I got into shooting, I had basic booboo type kits, but those are pretty much everyday items.  When I started putting together the kits specifically for the range and other "higher level" type stuff, it got pricey as I didn't have anything to start with.  I've since also gotten some training on the use of the items and can always use more.  Yeah, you can learn a lot from YouTube, but good to be able to ask questions of EMTs, medics, Corpsman, etc.

From what I can see, that box wasn't cheap. Where'd you order from?

There was more to the box than you see.
Added more gauze,
Celox plunger's  :shake: :shake:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0123DT4RQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Sting relief, Iodine swab sticks, eyewash etc...

Actually made 3 kits for about $300.00  full of stuff I hope to never use.
One for the shop/range, one for work truck (used already ), one for home.
So about $100 each.
All from Amazon.
If you want the list of links, LMK

The hemostatic stuff gets expensive and the smaller items add up as well.

I looked for stuff on Amazon, but the pricing was about the same as other reputable online vendors.  Sometimes the online vendors were cheaper. The shipping on Amazon was better though. I was a little wary of authenticity of some of the items, so I went with trusted online vendors. Was just wondering about other online vendors were folks shop at.

Did you pick that up as a kit? Or ordered a bunch of individual items?

When I was first looking for kits, many had lots of good stuff, but almost all of the kits I was interested either had 1-2 items I didn't want or need or was missing something. The missing part wasn't a big deal as always can supplement. Many kits available are less than getting individual items.  Now that I have built a number of different kits, I plan to rotate stuff here and there and now have a good amount of online vendors to get those items from.
