Discarding old ammo.

How do you discard old ammunition?  I have some with corroded brass which I acquired from an deceased uncle and I have couple rounds that misfired.

Drop them in the red ammo can at the rifle range. That is what it is for.

They used to.
I presume they still do. If you can't trust a cop who can you trust?

Back in the day they used to start a fire in a 55 gal drum at KHSC and throw the ammo in.

I think legally they are required to.

They have to take firearms for destruction from you.  Ammo could be considered part of that.

If you want to discard them yourself, you can pull the bullet out with a pair of pliers or you can buy an impact bullet puller which is $12 from Amazon or available at a few gun stores here.  Pull the bullet, fertilize your lawn with the gun powder or light it, and you can fire the primer or spray it with WD40 to kill it.

Or turn it into the range.  Or if you see someone saving brass at the range, see if they'll take care of it for you.

You lied when you said the law requires HPD to do this, then you back it up with fake facts and assumptions you copied from the Hawai'i County PD website that makes NO MENTION of ammunition.

If you can't answer the question honestly, just pass it by.  Bullshitting an answer is worse than no answer.  Someone could get really screwed if they were to follow some of the incorrect information you post.

Question: What is the correct way of disposing of unused sparklers, morning glories, etc. Should we just soak them in water, then throw them into the trash?

Q: How do I get rid of my unwanted small-caliber ammunition?

Answer: "In both cases, call the Honolulu Police Department at 911 and an officer will be sent to "assess the situation" and advise you on disposal", said department spokeswoman Michelle Yu.

This holds for any kind of unused fireworks, gun powder, bullets, explosives, etc.

And even with what flaps post says your wander is still bullshit because the law dose t require it and it doesn't say they will take them but merely advise you on how to dispose of them

Now now people, lets educate.  A lot of people think the Government is expected to do a lot of things or are required to do it.  Things that are required would be in the Federal Code of Regulations (https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/browse/collectionCfr.action?selectedYearFrom=2017&go=Go), Hawaii Revised Statutes (http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/) or City ordinances (http://www.honolulu.gov/ocs/roh.html//).  If it's not in there, then it's not legally required.

Anyways even though HPD will come to your house to pick up the ammo, it's a waste of their time and money if you can dispose of it yourself.

That has always been fireworks disposal, NO ammunition.

Yes they will, preferably at the range.  You might get someone that doesn't want to take it.

Wrong again.  There is no way someone could get "screwed" by what I said.  HPD or the state is indeed liable for what they do or tell you to do.  Worst case scenario you take it to HPD or HFD and they tell you what to do.  If they do not accept the ammo (explosives) and you improperly dispose of it and someone gets hurt.  The state could be considered liable for that, they can get sued.  Thus they are technically legally obligated if they do not provide you a safe way of disposing of it.  Especially when they have strict state enforced requirements on firearms and ammo.

And even with what flaps post says your wander is still bullshit because the law dose t require it and it doesn't say they will take them but merely advise you on how to dispose of them

See above response.  The government which places strict regulations on ammo (explosives) is indeed liable to some extent for many things because of the nature of the product.
