ONE FAMILY, TWO SCHOOLS: QUESTIONS RAISED ABOUT ANOTHER SANDERS DEAL

https://vtdigger.org/2017/06/13/one-family-two-schools-questions-swirl-around-another-sanders-deal/

While one deal struck by Jane O’Meara Sanders during her time as Burlington College’s president has triggered a federal investigation, another arrangement she engineered is breeding claims of nepotism and allegations of veiled threats against her husband’s presidential campaign.

The bad blood centers on the relationship the college forged with the Vermont Woodworking School, co-founded and run by Sanders’ daughter, Carina Driscoll.

Carol Moore, the final president at Burlington College, broadly blames the school’s 2016 closing on Sanders. In a scathing op-ed last year, Moore wrote: “BC’s fate was set when its former board members hired an inexperienced president.”
* * * * *
That deal is under scrutiny by federal authorities, who are examining whether Jane Sanders accurately represented donations to the college used as collateral to back the bank loan.
* * * * *
(Just last week, Jane Sanders launched The Sanders Institute, a policy think tank with three paid staffers, one of whom is her son.)
This won't go any where. Bernie is one of the privileged ones.

Jane and Bernie Sanders Under FBI Fraud Investigation Begun During Obama Administration…

https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2017/06/24/jane-and-bernie-sanders-under-fbi-fraud-investigation-begun-during-obama-administration/

Details are beginning to surface of a fraud investigation that began in 2016 as a result of complaints about Jane Sanders and her role in obtaining multi-million-dollar loans for a now defunct (closed in May ’16) Burlington University.  Many people might remember the origins of this story which began long before the presidential primary season last year.

BACKSTORY – At the end of 2010, Mrs. Jane Sanders took out $10 million in loans on behalf of Burlington College to purchase a 32-acre swathe of land from the Roman Catholic diocese, which put the land up for sale to help cover the costs of a $17 million sexual-abuse settlement

CBS reports today that an FBI fraud investigation did actually begin, and now Jane and Bernie Sanders have hired a high powered legal firm to defend themselves against any potential criminal or civil charges.

(Via CBS News) Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and his wife, Jane Sanders have hired prominent defense attorneys amid an FBI investigation into a loan Jane Sanders obtained to expand Burlington College while she was its president, CBS News confirms.

Politico Magazine first reported the Sanders had hired lawyers to defend them in the probe. Sanders’ top adviser Jeff Weaver told CBS News the couple has sought legal protection over federal agents’ allegations from a January 2016 complaint accusing then-President of Burlington College, Ms. Sanders, of distorting donor levels in a 2010 loan application for $10 million from People’s United Bank to purchase 33 acres of land for the institution.

According to Politico, prosecutors might also be looking into allegations that Sen. Sanders’ office inappropriately urged the bank to approve the loan.  (continue reading)

So was the above written before or after the caffeination?

I seriously do not understand how people that "support" someone like Sanders or Clinton cannot see the obvious contradiction between what the high and mighty touters of egalitarianism SAY and what they actually DO/ARE. All animals are equal. Some animals are more equal than others. How can that not be totally blatantly obvious? I suppose the "liberalism is a mental disease" meme comes into play at this point...

From the Bernie lovers I have talked to sort of admit they know and understand this. They accept it as they accept the leadership will be an elitist SOB. But they want everyone else to be equal. It's kinda weird tho, the Bernie lovers I know all live with roommates or with mommy and daddy. So they don't really have careers. They have a job that anyone can do. So they don't make enough to live on their own. Then they play the victim card and think if everyone is equal then they will be living better than they currently are. In other words expecting others to lift them up. What a waste...

Are you waiting for others to help raise your standard of living?

Even an under achiever can do quite well for themselves. Especially if motivated.

I was talking about those who have no desire to do better for themselves once they have reached a level of less than mediocrity. And then expect the government to give them more. While I don't know you I don't see that in you from your postings.

Bernie Sanders has dismissed accusations that his wife Jane had committed fraud in obtaining bank loans for the now defunct Burlington College and Sanders’ Senate office had stepped in to help, calling the accusations “nonsense,” and blaming it on Donald Trump’s campaign manager in Vermont.

Does anyone really doubt that the Russians told Trump to tell the Trump Vermont campaign manager to go after Bernie by making false statements to federal agents?

Nope. I hold myself accountable. However, if someone offered me an opportunity to live like Hugh Hefner I wouldn't reject it. But until that day comes, I work for myself. I pay back loans as fast as I can (mortgages are an exception) and don't borrow money from my friends.
In short, I was that Asian kid in class that didn't bring the grade curve up.
If government offers me something I'd take it but I know there are other effects. i.e. if everyone here on Hawaii accepted a govt. subsidized income, I'd expect prices to increase.

Hound, Hound, Hound...

C'mon now. I know you well enough to know that you want to be clear with what you say. So let's clear up a thing or two about what you said.

Bill Clinton was a great President for this Country. (Deficit to surplus)

I won't try and convince you about how bad Billy Bob Clinton was. But you want to rate a president as great due to ONLY a budget surplus? A budget that he really didn't want to balance in the first place? It took Newt Gingrich and the GOP a while to force 'ol Billy into submitting a balanced budget after he submitted, what? He submitted 4, 5 or 6 (don't remember the exact number) DEFICIT spending budgets? It took the promise of the GOP and Newt at the beginning of Clinton's first term to push Clinton into submitting a balanced budget in order to balance the budget in 7 years that actually got the budget balanced in 4 years. There was nothing Billy Bob did on his own. And it took them a lot of fighting with Billy to get the budget balanced. Especially since Billy raised taxes and the economy took a little turn for the worse. So Billy agreed to take a page out of the Reagan/Republican handbook and he submitted a balanced budget plan and lowered the corporate tax. Which spurred the economy and we had some pretty good times. Which, including reining in spending, not by Billy's original choice, which gave us a budget surplus for 4 years. We had a budget surplus because everyone was working and paying much more in payroll taxes (Reaganomics idea) along with the balanced budget. So giving Billy Bob Clinton credit for something he didn't want to do originally and reluctantly, and giving him credit for something that was not his idea is not really being clear. If you want to give him credit for it that is your prerogative.

And let's not forget that the budget is not the national debt. Our national debt increased significantly under Clinton in spite of the surplus budgets for four years. Under Bill Clinton $1.396 trillion was added to the national debt in his 8 years in office. Under Ronald Reagan $1.86 trillion was added to the national debt during his 8 years in office. Under George H.W. Bush $1.554 trillion was added to our national debt in only 4 years in office. And you want to rate Clinton as a good president based solely on balancing a budget? Especially when he didn't want to balance it at first and was pushed into it by Newt and the GOP? And do you want to forget about the habitual lying and the impeachment? We had some good years of a booming economy under him but we wouldn't have for as long as we did if he had not listened to Newt and the GOP and did what was good for the country because his tax increase made things a little worse. I just wanted to clear up what actually happened.

Reagan sucked. (Crazy deficit)

If you look at the numbers above it seems like Reagan really didn't add that much more to the deficit than Billy Bob did. And certainly H.W. added so much more since he was only in office for only 4 years. However, when you look at the percentage of increase over what the deficit was prior to the deficit increase then it appears that the increase during Reagan's term was HUGE. So I guess it depends on how you want to look at it. But I prefer not to look at what a president did based solely on one aspect of their term in office. I prefer to look at what they did thoroughly throughout their term. I agree we get a much larger debt, but at the same time we also broke the U.S.S.R. and won the cold war which to me was the hardest thing any president in modern history could have done. And it cost us dearly in dollars, not in lives. If he had not broken the U.S.S.R. I believe we were heading towards a nuclear war. Maybe limited, maybe not. Anyway, that is how I look at it. I personally think very highly of Reagan as a president. He certainly was not perfect because of the huge increase in national debt, but we had prosperity under him and avoided a nuclear war with the U.S.S.R. Which saved many lives. There are many other things but I won't try and convince you differently.

George Sr.(another great president) didn't get re-elected because he had to pay Reagan's bill. ( since Reagan dined and dashed)

I don't think he didn't get reelected because of what Reagan did. I think if that were true he would not have been elected in the first place. I didn't like Sr. for similar reasons that I didn't like Clinton. Remember "Read my lips"? To me a president that lies like that is not a good president. I believe there are some lies a president has to tell. Like for the sake of national security. But to try and cover up an affair like Billy Bob did and then lie to congress and the people about it or to say I won't raise taxes then turn right around and raise taxes to me was not good for 'ol Sr. Also, he was for the One World Order thing which was one government similar to what the U.N. wants. Which also means giving up our guns. But that is another story. Anyway, I think the read my lips episode is what blew his chances or reelection.

I respect your opinions on our past presidents even though I don't agree. I just want to make sure that when you say Clinton was a great president because "(Deficit to surplus) " during part of his term that all of the facts of the story are told so others will have the ability to judge based on all the facts as well.  :shaka: :shaka: :shaka:

I hear ya and everyone has an opinion and we can alternate facts 'till we're blue in the face. Google and the country has already done that and we can pick those we like and don't like.

Based on the above, we must hate Trump as he's the lieinest slippery contradict what I said yesterday but that's not what what I said I don't care if you got it on video, audio and it's my own tweet president we ever had. Fake news. Bullshit.
Just take Trump's direct quotes and tweets, in context, and compare them to his direct quotes and tweets, in context, whatever days or months later. He's a slippery, lieing but entertaining character.
Can't help but lie. Serial liar.
When was last Trump caught in another lie thread on this forum?
Or Trump does a 180, the hypocrite thread ?

Lying about an affair? Seriously.

And Inspector this is not directed at you but the forum mentality in general. (I totally respect you and this is way more fun over beverages and hand shakes at the end of the night)

I think I'm OK RK.

I just enjoy sitting on the fence for now and watching the extremes go at it in the news, on the Internet, etc.

Blind faith and ideologies hyping up further blind faith ideologies. Each as entrenched as the next. Neither willing to reason. Both citing the other as the reason this Country is going to hell in a hand-basket.

To me this is amusing.

I'm still out on Trump. I think I need more time to really decide what I think about him and what he is doing. It's like I know what he has done so far for 2A and some other things seems really good, but my gut feeling stills says I can't trust him. I can't put my finger on it, just my gut feeling. The tweets don't help either.

For me it's not the fact he had the affair. He should have never committed perjury. He lied to the wrong people. Once he did that he deserved everything he got as far as impeachment is concerned. JMHO

Very different story and context, but that is exactly I saw happening with the racial division issue under Obama.  Giving the nation something to worry about.  A real concern that distracts from the other things going on.  Look how convenient there were breaking news stories just after news that was very much damaging to the Obama administration.  Distract.  Smoke and mirrors.

Why do you think so much money was being thrown at BLM? Something happens that makes BHO look bad, BAM!!! BLM is having another riot because of racial tensions in the U.S. Now that Trump is president and they are going to prosecute anyone in BLM that breaks the law, where is BLM?
