The sorry state of KHSC....(and other parks)

"The excuses would be credible IF other parks on the mainland were in the same shape. This is not the case. Restrooms at some of the busiest National parks are clean. If they can do it, we can do it. Yet Hawaii seems to have lost its sense of pride and excellence. We do not invest in our public spaces, particularly in terms of personnel. How is it that a modern tourist economy cannot figure out how to provide soap? This suggests a failure of leadership at many levels."....Jim Shon

When I go to Vegas, I noticed that everyone is happy at their job.  Fast food, janitor, restaurant, etc...all seem happy.  Compared to Hawaii seems like people hate their job.  So that would explain that they do the minimum possible compared to Vegas, hence the dirtiness.

I think the beach access is great the way it is now. Nice grass. Clean restrooms. Limited people on the beaches at on given time. Trash cans are NOT overflowing with trash littered on the grounds. No homeless camping in the parking lot and on the shoreline is also a good thing. I would say the way it is currently is good.

Was RO for the trap range Sunday. Went to the lua and was shocked. The floor was covered with piss, the urinal would barely flush, the toilet had piss all over it, toilet paper and piss on the floor. Disgusting. Sadly these conditions are normal. Funny thing is KHSC will be hosting the Shooting Sports Fair this coming weekend. Us shooters put up with the conditions but when the non shooting public sees the rest rooms all it will take is some complaints and the C&C will shut down the range AGAIN due to lack of proper toilet facilities, they just need an excuse and will take them forever to fix it.....  :wtf:

Many parks gave volunteer groups that help to clean and maintain facilities. I recall when the rifle side roof was deemed unsafe and it was taking forever for the City to repair that people offered to fix for free. I heard that offer was turned down primarily due to unions being a driving factor under the guise of liability concerns.

This is one of those "opportunity costs" I mentioned in the rail threads.  When you spend (waste) money on one thing, you give up the benefits of using that money on other alternatives.  Think of the brand-spanking new luas we could have in every park, and with nice upgrades like self flushing toilets and sensor-controlled sinks, if we hadn't wasted so much on this rail boondoggle.

There's a reason we can't have nice things.  Elected officials don't manage our resources wisely.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.

That's the most (unnecessarily) polite, understated, euphemistic comment possible about totally incompetent, corrupt "public servants" ever seen from anyone other than a progressive defender of their corrupt incompetence.

It's also indisputable .... no matter which ideology one tends to espouse in other threads.   :geekdanc:

I've even seen C&C employees leave the restroom at KHSC and it looked like crap on multiple occasions. So I guess as long as get TP we good.  I actually keep TP in my trunk anyways.

My wife was going to bring Bath and Bodyworks soap because the women's side had none.

I guess this is another reason to privatize services.  A commercial company would do a better job in order to get the contract, at a cheaper cost.

I just thought of an idea.  How about a dedicated facebook page where people post pictures of dilapidated city facilities and services like dirty bathrooms, safety hazards, homeless areas, long service lines, lazy workers, and other stuff to shame the city.  Maybe it'll get them to do a better job to clean up their image.

Start one like how Michael Kitchen started SSH.  Send me an invite to join.  Maybe work with KHON because when they do stories on stuff like that, it gets fixed the next day.

That's a good point, we won't say its to shame the city, but to work with the city so people can post pictures and the city will check the page and send people to fix them.  And to get some press coverage.

We were there the week before last for SSF cleanup and Rockette noticed only one of the woman's was "sketchy" but  working,  the other  covered ion a black garbage bag.
When we arrived home, she Emailed the mayor with her concerns.

Last week she said both toilets working, but bathroom still "spooky".

I remember a few years ago We all were going to do some work for KHSC like new seating and shooting benches rifle side, get water working bay side, welding  targets paint bathrooms etc...
Think we got "shut down" as we were "taking jobs away from C & C" (dey took owr yobss !)

The only downside is that it would take up a good portion of your time to moderate to keep the page credible.  That's why SSH gets such recognition from the state.  No bashing, need PR#, etc...Where as Stupid Stuff Hawaii, anything goes.
