Seattle gun tax failure? Firearm sales plummet, violence spikes after law passes

When the City of Seattle passed a tax on all sales of guns and ammunition, the measure was hailed as a way to defray the rising costs of gun violence.

But since the tax took effect, those costs have only risen as gun violence in the city has surged. And the tax has apparently brought in much less than city leaders projected it would.

“How much data do you need?” asked Dave Workman, senior editor of TheGunMag.com and member of the Second Amendment Foundation. “The data says the law has failed to prevent what they promised it would prevent.”

And as the article notes further down, it's actually likely a total net LOSS of revenue for the city, as the sales taxes lost on the non-sales (that moved to the stores just outside the city limits) is likely greater than the tax revenue generated. They put the gun sales tax money in a separate account, possibly around $100,000, so it looks like they got some money from the taxing scheme... but once you deduct the lost sales tax, they're likely in the hole... PLUS, more crime, more AGW carbon dioxide from people having to drive further to shop, greatest hardship falls on the poorest people, etc.! Typical progressive scheme and results... expect to see it soon here in Hawaii now that it's been proven ineffective.

Interesting but not surprising.

I am curious to see what else the gun violence rate can be correlated with though.

They targeted the wrong population subset.
Oh yeah, because taxes won't be paid by criminals
So let's tax the people who want to protect themselves from criminals.

Now they're trying to tout a "study" that cost $500,000
They can pay me.
I'll take away "gun" from their term of violence and I'll them that we are the cause of violence. Plain and simple. No cost.

I grew up in Whatcom County north of Seattle. Other than Walmart, I don't recall seeing gun stores around. There is a new one down the street so now I'm curious to check it out. My dad lives in a rural community along the Guide Meridian. I was surprised to see several large signs along the highway for marijuana distributors. I'm sure the church folk are not happy about that.

There are actually lots of gun stores in Seattle. Or at least there were when I lived there. Actually, there were lots in more affluent areas like Bellevue and Redmond. With nice shooting ranges. I still keep in touch with many Seattle friends and many shoot. I'd still have a CCW if I lived there.
