Hawaii files court challenge on Trump travel ban criteria

Just like clock work...didn't take Hawaii long at all. Obviously Chin is a moron and can't interpret the definitions already provided, and thinks he/Hawaii is special and it should be something other than what was defined.

Quote
Currently, administration guidelines say that travelers from the affected countries can only come into the U.S. to visit spouses, parents, children, siblings or sons- and daughters-in-law.

Hawaii's challenge seeks to expand the exemptions to include "fiancés, grandparents, grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins of people currently living in the United States."

“In Hawaii, ‘close family’ includes many of the people that the federal government decided on its own to exclude from that definition," Hawaii Attorney General Douglas Chin said in a statement. "Unfortunately, this severely limited definition may be in violation of the Supreme Court ruling.”

And while chin is trying to defend his actions, Homeland Security is beefing up airline security.
Chin needs a slap on the head.

Yes, all the times I have seen him on TV, he looks and sounds stupid.  How did he get that job anyway?  Was he appointed by some other dim light?

The Attorney General nominee is chosen by the governor (Ige) and confirmed (or not) by the state senate. Chin was confirmed by a unanimous vote of the senate (so even the sole Republican, at the time (now there are none), Sam Slom voted for him). Chin is EXACTLY what the state politicians want "the people" to have working for "us".

This is depressing, as at my age, I have NO HOPE of seeing ANY change for the better in Hawaii's current state of affairs in my lifetime.  I have told my wife that if she predeceased me, I am moving to NV.

Do you think Ige will get a serious primary challenger?  :stopjack:

Why are they challenging something that has been decided on by SCOTUS?  Further arguments are already scheduled for October.  Can't wait 3 months?  The 2A community waited 8 years or so for Peruta.

Well Judge Watson has enough sense not to F with SCOTUS.  He refused Hawaii's request to "clarify" what the Supreme Court's ruling meant.

Yeah, Watson knows that he can get away with anything in the Ninth Circuit, but SCOTUS not so much. I'd think that if he really believes on principle (and he states he still does) that the basis for the temporary travel restriction is Trump's islamophobia, he'd make his case to SCOTUS... but he chickens out by claiming it's a "procedural question"...

"This Court will not upset the Supreme Court’s careful balancing and “equitable judgment” ... nor would this district court presume to substitute its own understanding of the stay for that of the originating Court’s “exercise of discretion and judgment,” said Watson.

Sounded like a little kid asking about technicalities of feedback they got from their parent that they didn't like.

Trump should issue an EO banning all guns.  Then the Dems will want more guns.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/07/07/muslim-activist-suggests-resisting-trump-is-form-jihad.html

“It is not to assimilate and to please any other people or authority,” Sarsour said. “Our obligation is to our young people, and to our women, and to make sure our women are protected in our community and our top priority, even higher than those priorities is to please Allah, and only Allah.” Sarsour had been praised by the Obama administration for her advocacy work and had campaigned for Bernie Sanders. But she's also faced criticism from women's rights advocates for her defense of sharia law and other positions.   (women's rights and Sharia Law? Are there womens' rights under Sharia?)

Further, she stirred more controversy in her speech last weekend by calling out her “favorite person in the room” -- Imam Siraj Wahhaj, whom she described as a “mentor, motivator, and encourager.” Wahhaj appeared on a list of unindicted co-conspirators in the 1993 World Trade Center bombings.
