hi all, new to this site and hoping to make some hunting friends.
anyhow, i saw the question about lower end rifles and i've recently been shopping, so i learnned that Central Guns and Ammo in Kahului Maui had some Marlins, Savages, etc in stock for around $390-$450. Was planning on flying up for business and picking one up...then i saw the beretta tikka t3 .270 on closeout at sports authority yesterday for $449. they have one left!  ordered my nikon scope from amazon for $150... mouflon sheep here i come!

Welcome to the site. It looks like you got a mighty fine rifle at a mighty fine price. Personally I like the Savages because you can change the barrel yourself, but the Tikkas are very nice and highly regarded as well.

The only rifles I've actually hunted with are:

Rem. 700 BDL, 7mm Rem. Magnum, Leupold VX-III 3.5-10 X 40 AO.  Probably weighs 9-9.5 lbs.

Winchester Model 94, .30-30.  5.5-6 lbs.

A friend just gave me his Howa 1500 .30-06, I put a Leupold VX-1 3-9 x 40 on it today and I'm gonna try it out tomorrow--not looking forward to the hard plastic buttplate on that one but if it shoots I'll put a decelerator pad on it.

Depends  on what i'm hunting and where.

For in the bush - I use a ruger mini 30 with a burris tac30 1-4x glass,  loaded with 10 rounds of federal powershock 125gr pointed soft point it goes 9 pounds.

For open country - I run a savage 110 in .270 with a meuller 4-16x glass running hornady superformance 130 grain interbond ballistic tip. It also weighs around 9 pounds.
