latest incident I heard at the range was a person shooting a 9mm upper with a .223 muzzle brake / flash hider.

What's the problem there? Isn't 223 a much bigger number than 9?

I'm afraid there's a near infinite supply of stupid people out there. Here's one from a couple of days ago that I didn't post because it's just too stupid and heartbreaking... but since the idea of a Darwin Award came up... though in this case it couldn't be his daughter's fault for being born to a careless dolt.

This is the kind of story we should never have to cover. There is simply no excuse for this type of shooting EVER.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on June 10, 2017, a father in Indiana was showing his sons a 9MM handgun, instructing them not to play with it “because it can kill someone” when he pulled the trigger, killing his 9-year-old daughter Olivia who had just walked into the room where he was talking with his sons.

“I had my gun, and I pulled the trigger. I didn’t realize there was a bullet in there, and I shot my daughter,” Hummel told the dispatcher.

According to the police report, one of Hummel’s sons—the 9-year-old—said his father pointed the gun at him “probably like two times” and “a few times” at the other brother, he alleged.

Not exactly Darwinism.
Just a special class of stupid.
The real tragedy is that it is a lose-lose situation.
Justice for the stupid father deprives the boys of their father.
A slap on the wrist penalty is inappropriate too.

That's why I said you couldn't really fault the daughter (whose genes (including the father's contribution) were removed from the pool prior to reproduction) for being born to a dolt. The killer father was eliminating his genes from the gene pool by killing his daughter, and maybe could have gone further by killing his sons too if he really pointed the gun at them like the one son claimed, but it's too bad he didn't do the direct gene pool protection by killing himself first... but he had already reproduced anyway... definitely a lose lose situation. And there'll be another one tomorrow (already read one today where a father killed his son (thus not a true Darwin Award candidate) thinking he was an intruder...).
