New Blaster....RANGE REPORT
« on: July 26, 2017, 04:12:44 PM »
Well picked up the Hi Point today from J Hara Store (ordered thru Gallery of Guns Gun Grnie). Fist time I've been there was actually pleasantly surprised! Friendly, courteous and seems like they appreciated my business. Quoted price was about $45 cheaper out the door than other local LGS's. Paid the quoted balance and was in and out quickly. Only quirky requirement is that you have to bring a hard sided case with you.

Gun seems pretty nice but instructions SUCK. The bolt handle was in one bag with other accessories while the bolt handle roller was in another with the supplied sling😜. Removed the front sight, put a Hi Point flash hider on and it looks better IMHO. Removed the rear sight and replaced with an NC Star reflex optic red/green/blue sight with a cantilever base. Turned out good. Only thing I'm gonna do next is remove the plastic rail on the gun and replace with aluminum but not until I shoot the daylights outta this thing. Overall happy so far...

Received an email from Gallery of Guns saying my Mossberg MVP LC was temporarily out of stock and I should not have been able to order it. They ordered ordered another for me and it will be at J Hara Store by the 20th of August. Not bad!

Here are some pictures of the new boom boom...

Years ago, I would visit the LAUSD school construction projects. I visited an elementary school in Compton and asked the Sup how's the gang activity. He said the Crips were in this direction, the Bloods in this direction, and the Latin Kings in that direction. They were in ground zero for the gangs in Compton. When the district decided where to build the schools, they looked at where the highest gang activities were. Now any crime within 1,000 feet of the school becomes a felony.

I visited another jobsite in the south end that was so afraid of gunshots that they installed plywood along the fence after they observed a LAPD assassinate a suspect in handcuffs. I imagine that the perp probably deserved it because he was turning children into mules but that's not how the US justice system is supposed to work.

Congrats on the new addition!!!

Guns purchased for fun are the best IMHO. I am glad you are happy with it and that you got a good price. I hear the quality of HiPoint Firearms is very good these days. So hopefully you will get many years and 1,000's of rounds of use out of it.

I like J Hara Store here on Oahu. They have very nice and helpful people here on this island. My only complaint about them are their prices. But when they have a sale it is usually a good sale with decent to good prices. Another good thing I like about them is they almost always have what I want in stock. As compared to some of the LGS here where one has to constantly check for the items one wants to get back into stock.

That looks like an interesting and fun gun!  Looking forward to seeing how it works for you!

Question on the NCStar.  Have you used it previously on other guns?  I have heard many bad things and have come across problems with those optics on other people's guns as well.  Maybe they have improved, which is why I am asking here.  Just haven't seen them lately.

This one seems pretty well built, clear dot and optics. I've had a number of NC Star products and never had any problems. For $35 shipped how can I go wrong?👍🏼😁

Ok took the Hi Point 995TS to the range.  Pushed about 175 rounds thru it with two FTF but cleared easily (Hi Point sez 300 rounds for break in). Used cheap ruskie 115gr steel case FMJ and PMC bronze 115gr FMJ brass case. Good strong ejection about 6-7', @ 4 o'clock. 2-3" @ 50 yards. Overall a real fun gun for the money. Far from perfect but if you consider bang for the buck, it's worth it. I like it!👍🏼😄🙃

P.S. NCSTAR sight worked great once I read the instructions about how to zero it 😝

Congrats!  High fun to price ratio.  If Brother Kimo's review is anywhere near accurate(pun) a whole lotta gun for the buck.  And reasonable ammo costs too. :shaka:

2-3" at 50 yards sounds pretty darn awesome to me!

Haha.  I'm the same way with stuff like that.  Who needs directions?  I was trying to zero an Aimpoint PRO one day and just couldn't figure it out.  Already had guns a Comp M4 and T-1 and they all zeroed pretty quickly.  Well, the instructions for the mounts says you need to turn until you hear two successive clicks to ensure lockup.  Well, didn't do that.    :grrr:

Good to hear that you're enjoying the new gun!

Found out, quite simply, left is right, up is down. Dat was ok though, got to shoot, shoot, shoot! By the way, called Hi-Point this morning. Since the fring pin also acts an ejector, the pins can bend. Asked them about it and they said while it doesn't happen often, it can bend but just in case they are sending 4 spares and a freee mag! Pretty good service👍🏼
