I just got the car back from the shop. Spent $700 replacing a fuel injector for my Mazda. The proprietary Ford (that's right) part cost $300 and $400 to tear half the engine apart to get to the damn thing. The top on the injector was caked with carbon.

Replaced a few month back, was clean at 80,000 miles.

Just had my A/C serviced on mt 10 year old 4Runner.  Shocking how much cooler the air is now, though I do not use it all that much. 

Changed the filter when I got the truck 3 years ago and it was full of junk.  Helped get of that faint cigarette smell my wife could detect.

When I drove the car the a.c. seemed uncomfortably cold after changing the filter.
The filter had black dirt, bird feathers, and leaves in it. It was not changed for 10 years.
I didn't even know there was such a thing until recently.

It's a Chevy HHR 2006. Great little commuter car. Fits the small parking stalls and gets great gas mileage. Like a little station wagon

My ex had a 1980 pinto. It was the worst car I ever drove.

So I took this posting to heart and checked on my cabin air filter in my 2009 Tacoma. I had someone change it for me at either 40k or 50k miles. I read somewhere that it was a long hard job to do. I think I paid like $80 or $100 to have it done. So now at 78k miles I figured it was time to at least check on it. I found a YouTube video on how to do it. It is so easy and takes well under 5 minutes. With no tools I had it finished in under 2 minutes and I had never done it before. It took longer to get the filter at Walmart, it took longer to empty my glove compartment and it took longer to find my flashlight than it did to change the filter out. 

BTW, after ~38k miles the filter was almost black. So it needed to be changed for sure. Thanks for reminding me to do this OF. 

I replaced my car battery after two years. Batteries seem to die an early death here in the tropical heat. It was strange. I remember buying it at NAPA but couldn't find the receipt but it's a Costco battery and they couldn't find it in their system. I hate being old and losing my memory.

I was talking to my coworker who takes care of the fleet.
We concur that costco batteries are not known for their longevity.
However they do honor their warranty so I suppose it doesn't matter. You'll get your monies worth.
For my little car, I go with Delco Freedom 6 year maintenance free battery. They are known for their longevity.
 

Before I changed the cabin air filter, I went to walmart looking to buy a replacement. They only had the fancy Febreeze model for $32.
No way I was going to pay $32 for that.
I ordered online for $6.50 and it was delivered in a couple days.

You should check all these things as often as you go to your dentist for a cleaning and checkup - which is at least 2x a year
