Dont understand why a school would want to lockup all students in the event of an active shooter...wouldnt it be like fish ina barrel?

You talking about high school or college?
I think the less people running around like a chicken without a head the better. Makes identification easier.  Understand the point about fish in a barrel though. I know mainland might be a little different cause their schools are kinda indoor.

On a side note I wonder the ballestics of a school door.

High school was the only time i've ever seen a door made out of something other than wood.  (steel).  I'm willing to bet most doors are just somewhat thin wooden doors.  Remember in Virgina Tech, a teacher was killed because he was bracing himself against the door preventing the psycho from getting in.....so the psycho ended up just shooting the teacher through the door.

^^^Even most metal doors have cores which are not solid.  I wouldn't consider a metal door cover, only concealment.

When my kid goes to school, I'm going to make sure she knows that teachers aren't teachers any more if there's an active shooter, they're just scared people trying to follow idiotic procedures, and that she should do whatever she thinks will best aid her in getting the hell out of there. Regardless of what the teacher says.
