Fail to fire with brand new glock 17 gen5
« on: November 03, 2017, 09:07:53 PM »
Took my wife to xring to test her brand new gen 5. Sad to say a few shots into the first mag there was a fail to fire. Looks like light primer strikes. After clearing the round in the chamber, I made sure the slide was in full battery and tried for myself. Same thing except with a new mag. Very disappointed... out of about 150 total rounds, about 10 were fail to fire. My shield 9 never ever had this problem before.

Happened to anyone before?

Did you clean it before firing the new gun?

Just a light clean. The usual out of the box cleaning.

Reason I ask is glock is probably one gun you don't clean out the box. That copper lube is the break in grease. Just wondering on that part...but I'm pretty sure you were using armscor ammo and I know that ammo runs a bit tight in the glock (née springs and barrel+ sticky ammo= malfunction (maybe a little  limp wristing sprinkled on top)) with that being said use the federal ammo at the range and you will have zero issues.

Correct... it was armscor. I’m sure there was no limp wristing involved. She and I have shot my M&p 600+ rounds no problem. Thank you for the help!

@oldfart @heavies I know right? This was my first glock and it wasn’t even mine. I’m more of a S&W kinda guy but my wife wanted it. Happy wife happy life right? LOL?

Was the same ammo used with the M&P (without issue)? You could try taking the M&P with next range session.

At a recent handgun class, a number of shooters were having failure to fires with a specific bunch of ammo with suspected hard primers. Same ammo malfunctioned with a bunch of guns and different makes (Glock and Sig). Also some more stock and others more mods.

A shooting friend loves to tinker. He was getting tons of failures to fire and we narrowed down to that he had recently swapped springs. Back to stock springs and no problem. He was shooting his own reloads though, but that worked fine in my stock 34. [revised after seeing response about mods]

Not ammo related and no mods. Got me. Maybe try sending it back to have checked out. Sorry you’re going through this.

I dunno, you could try and break it down.  Check the firing pin, springs, and channel.  See if anything is unusual or damaged.

You could try a different brand of ammo and see if it has the same problems or try and wear it in, but Glock should be able to shoot the armscor with no problems.

If the shop you bought it from has a glock armorer, they can take a look at it.  Or else email Glock and they'll probably have you ship it to them.

@flapp I agree... just a bit disappointed our first glock purchase... kinda makes me lean towards the S&W pro 9 rather than the glock 34

Sorry, I was poking fun.  Any new mass produced item is bound to have some problem pieces slip through.  Did you buy it at a local GS? Bring it back to them and see if they will do something for you, also contact Glock direct and see what they say..

Hope it works out.

I bought a Kahr for my plastic fantastic.
