Spinach for me!
« on: March 04, 2012, 12:34:04 AM »
I'm not much of a farmer or have time to do much gardening at my house but wanted to share my spinach growing...

It makes a great SHTF food... Easy to grow in Hawaii year round...

[ftphttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinach][/ftp]

Have a patch of spinach growing in my front yard... It is very durable... in fact when it got too bad, i pulled it out. Couple weeks later the keikis came back in full force! Great plant... have boiled it with salt, pepper, butter, good side dish. Put it in the lau lau when i ran out of luau leaf... close enough... and cleaned and eaten fresh for salads... good stuff.

Very easy to grow  and easy shtf veggie!

btw... have given to my chickens and my pet parrot and they love it too!

Nice! My chickens won't touch the stuff yet, but that's because i'm spoiling them with scraps.
I’m becoming clinically undepressed and thinking about beginning it all.

I think the new zealand spinach is a cleansing food too, helps your system clear toxins like NBC agents,

That's cool, I'm an apartment dweller, have to look at the possibility of indoor growing.

I think sprouts are the ultimate survival food though.  Very easy to grow, you don't need light, or soil.  Just a few days and you have edible super nutrient packed sprouts!  If stored properly, seeds can be good for several years, longer if refrigerated or frozen.  And there are so many things that can be sprouted!  Not just alfalfa, mung bean, broccoli, onion, and clover, like we see in the stores.  But other grains, grasses, and beans.  Plus, seeds are very compact and lightweight.  Learn to love the simple sprout!  :geekdanc:
