Al Franken is no longer a Senator.   :geekdanc: :geekdanc: :geekdanc: :geekdanc:

Al Franken resigns: Here's what happens to his Senate seat

Sen. Al Franken officially resigned on Jan. 2, nearly a month after he announced his plans
to step down from Congress amid numerous sexual misconduct allegations that began in
November of last year.

Aides to the senator told Fox News that Franken has provided his letter of resignation to
Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton. Minnesota Lt. Gov. Tina Smith, who is replacing Franken,
is expected to be sworn in on Wednesday.

Franken, a Minnesota Democrat who has been in office since 2009, was plagued by multiple
accusations of sexual misconduct over the past month and faced a Senate Ethics Committee
investigation. The allegations began after Los Angeles radio anchor Leeann Tweeden accused
him of forcibly kissing her during a 2006 USO tour.

Franken announced he would resign after more than two dozen key Democratic lawmakers
called for him to step down.

I never really like him as a Senator. He was okay as a comedian. I liked his Daily Affirmations skit on SNL. Recently, he went through the humorizer, or maybe the dehumorizer from 2008 wore off. Regardless, his past assholedness had to catch up with him and had to face the music. I imagine his replacement will be pretty much the same as before. It will be interesting to see what happens in the 2018 special election but after falling on his sword and the flooding of Dems to the polls, I don't expect a change.

Stepping down was kind of weak. It leads me to believe there are some skeletons in the closet and he's cutting his losses. I liked him when he ran because he promised to follow in the footsteps of Paul Wellstone but pretty soon he was playing ball like the rest of the establishment. As fun as it is to see Democrats and Republicans get the crap kicked out of them, you have to wonder what's coming next. They are so wobbly at this point it wouldn't take much to push them over.
Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

There are already many questions about the Congressmen who used public funds to pay off alleged victims of sexual abuse or harassment.  I think the other shoe is about to drop on that little scandal as well.

The public deserves to know how our taxes are used.  If Congress has a hush fund, we need to be told who used it, who got paid, and how much.
