Just like BATFE said the Mossberg 590 Shockwave, etc. were Non-NFA legal "firearms", but ruled illegal by the minions of the Democratic People's Republic of Hawaii, I'd wager the same result with this:

yup, HPD will declare it an SBR and call it illegal, just like the shockwave and other firearms, despite the ATF letter

Can you confirm the below is what makes it not a SBR or shotgun

1) No "rifling" inside the barrel
2) Over all length is X inches
3) Can't shoot shotgun shells

great marketing idea.  everyone is trying to guess how they got around the rules.  My guess is binary fire (fires with pull and release only) which gets around the "single shot per trigger pull" 
or it only fires with release of the trigger which would be dumb.

According to Hawaii state law it is illegal here. Nothing to do with HPD. ATF laws on what is classified as a certain type of firearm do not supersede state laws on firearm classification.

Heard about this firearm being tested at SHOT, or just prior, and it was keyholing at 50 yards.

It’s a binary trigger - one shot with the pull and one shot with the release of the trigger.   How they got around the short barreled “rifle” clause.  A rifle is defined as one pull of the trigger.

they are claiming it has straight lands and grooves, so therefore no rifling, so it is not a "rifle"

Meh. It’s folks just trying to find ways around gun laws.  Just more things that gun laws will clarify to shut down. Many think this type of stuff is cool or interesting. For me, somewhat interesting what companies are trying, but this one is pretty lame.
