No false alarm message on T mobile and network was immediately down. No internet and not even texts getting through. Phone started working again but no all clear message yet. Thinking about getting a different carrier.

In any case turned on the HAM radio and found out pretty quick it was a false alarm. For the operators there it was a great shakedown test to find out what wasn't working and I'm sure tomorrow night's practice net is going to be a lot more interesting than usual.

We have a real issue when it comes to relying on cell phones in an emergency.  We saw this during tsunami warnings.  Everybody just HAS to call everyone they know to see what's up.  It completely jams the cellular services, and nobody can get through.

No matter how many times the state warns to only use the phones for real emergency calls, people don't care.

Interesting.

I have tmobile and received all Alerts and was able to use all features/functionality, including phone, text, internet, pornhub (wait, what?).

With new computer technology it is easy to accidentally send out an alert. Don't ask me how I know this.

Here are some quick ways to tell:

Turn to KSSK. They are a primary emergency alert station

Turn on your TV to most any local station. A real national threat would override the audio with a constant audio broadcast.

Listen for those sirens.

Who knows? For all we know there was a real launch and we shot it down. The government wouldn't warn us if there were only a matter of mins before a strike

No shame in getting in a last wank before the EOTW. Some people are going to go out with a lot less dignity than that. As far as signal it might have just been my tower that crashed. I'm pretty close to Waikiki so that's probably why.

NK and SK are in peace talks right now. Unless some really rogue faction took over then it's highly unlikely.

My wife has T-Mobile, no alert and phone calls weren't working. She was receiving texts.

I didn't try to make a phone call but assumed that wasn't working either. What part of the island?

Anybody else get this alert?

When there are emergency situations, use text messages. The wireless infrastructure can relay those few bytes of data quickly.

That is great advice.  Didn't think about that option.

Our T-mobil worked.
Family called/text.
I said I was rather "busy " and hung up. :shake:
Mainland family was also first to tell us it was a "mistake" (negligent alert  ?)

Hopefully it was Inoye, Ing or other idiot that wondered what that button was for.

If anything at all  it shows that I, of all people should have been more prepared for this scenario. :(

It's always been about tsunami/fire (immediate grab BOB and go).
Hurricane (hours), Financial/social collapse (days)
I tried to take advantage of the few remaining minutes to "hoard"  extra guns, food and clothes before bug out and was over by 3 minutes.
Easy fix, but disappointed.

Now they are saying it was an exercise !   :wtf:

Great discussion on Diamond Head repeater right now. People were turned away from emergency shelters. Some people were hiding their kids in storm drains. What's the point of emergency warning if there's nowhere to go?

Shatz was on CNN slamming the Ige and his administration. He made the point a few times. Guess he’ll be running for Governor.

The alert woulda happened minutes into the first round at KHSC. I wonder what that was like to hear everyone's phone going off that you have 15 minutes to kiss your family goodbye?
