As Fox News reported, for nearly 20 minutes, Gov. Ige failed to notify the public that the errant public warning was a misfire because he forgot his Twitter password.

Ige reportedly knew the warning was an accidental false alarm within two minutes of it being sent.  "Here's a state governor who thinks he can only communicate by Twitter," Gutfeld said. "Is this state run by teenagers?"  "No," he added. "It's run by Democrats, who are basically teenagers with power."  Gutfeld said Ige didn't need a Twitter password to call a press conference or notify the public by other means.  He called the overwhelmingly Democratic Hawaiian government "amateur hour," saying they have a hard time "logging onto Twitter - and reality."  Gutfeld said Ige and other Democrats should think twice before criticizing President Donald Trump's Twitter usage because "at least he knows how [to tweet]."

ribbit....ribbit....ribbit

It wasn't just Twitter.  It was also the commercial cell phone and regular phone service providers.  Everyone in the state was clogging up the systems, and the Governor could not get through to the EMA office to coordinate their response.

When the people in charge are just as unable to communicate as people calling their friends and family, the state is experiencing a high degree of negligence and incompetence.  Most people know the federal government and military rely on dedicated comms systems for critical functions, but our government wants to pretend a regular cell phone is okay.  Hard to believe the people in charge of our emergency preparedness are former military generals.  What were they on active duty, lawyers?  Doctors?  Food service?

Latrine maintenance detail? No, I don't really know, but several people here have assured us that based upon their personal acquaintance, these "are the people you want in charge".

And of course the guy they put in charge of the military "investigation" will be "investigating" his direct superior officer. Gee, I wonder how that will turn out?

I totally agree with you.

However, the recent findings of incompetence at the civilian level should not be a surprise at all.  Other than being a geographically strategic location to place military assets, the other main reason Washington DC decided to militarize Hawaii was to keep the continental US safe as much as possible from invasion or nuclear attack.  Everyone in Hawaii who lived through the Cold War knew that.

Hence, if anything catastrophic happened to Hawaii, the US would use that event as a sigh of relief that it was Hawaii and not somewhere in the mainland, as well as a further rallying cry to continue any of its imperial foreign escapades.

The bottom line is the people of Hawaii are and has always been written off as collateral damage, furthered evidenced by the recent uncovering of incompetency of its own civil defense agencies, which you would think would have learned a thing or too having survived the would-be guaranteed destruction of the Cold War.

Can’t believe he admitted the Twitter thing. If it’s true (no reason to doubt), that’s one thing. But if that’s is way of trying to accept or otherwise direct the blame onto himself,  ???

And I always thought he was more of a Fozzie Bear.

Since there are at least two independent investigations going on right now, he might be trying to get out in front of the reports by releasing embarrassing information early.

Who really knows what these officials are thinking?  They don't seem to follow logic or reasoning that most of us would expect.

Your anti-military rhetoric is getting old.
Meanwhile other countries i.e. Russia and China would love to get a foot hold in as much places as the US. In fact, China builds their own islands with no care what so ever. It's all part of their long term strategic plan.

Sorry about that.

From memory it said "We don't have false alarms, but we do have tanks to go with your BBQ grill." Or something to that effect.

Obviously a play on the missle warning false alarm.

I guess that could be one angle. But still. I mean there’s being honest, but damn.

All through the Cold War, did you for once believe that the plannners in Washington DC were not aware that the size of the military footprint in Hawaii made it one of the major targets for invasion and/or destruction?

I object.  That answer is non-responsive and lacks proper foundation.

that's a far different statement than "Other than being a geographically strategic location to place military assets, the other main reason Washington DC decided to militarize Hawaii was to keep the continental US safe as much as possible from invasion or nuclear attack.  Everyone in Hawaii who lived through the Cold War knew that."

What did I write in my statement that bothers you?

"Other than being a geographically strategic location to place military assets...

I do not think there is anything questionable here.

"...the other main reason Washington DC decided to militarize Hawaii was to keep the continental US safe as much as possible from invasion or nuclear attack."

Was it not the fear of using Hawaii as a potential staging point of an invasion of North America or a great staging point for the US to persecute a war in Asia (e.g., the Spanish American War in Philippines) two of the different reasons Hawaii was Illegally annexed in 1898?

Furthermore, with Washington DC placing nuclear weapons in the silos of nuclear submarines at Pearl Harbor, as stated by Ren, does this decision not infer that they wanted those WMDs in Hawaii to spare the continental US the potential risks of being targeted directly?

Everyone in Hawaii who lived through the Cold War knew that."

Maybe this might have been an overstatement, as clearly there are many sheeple in Hawaii.
