Brownells Retro Rifles: NOT FOR HAWAII
« on: January 30, 2018, 07:21:43 AM »
Well the line of retro rifles that Brownells debuted at Shot Show this year are NOT for sale to Hawaii FFLs unless you are LE or Military..

Transcript of my conversation with Brownells this morning:

Kevin K[6:56:37 AM] Hello, aside from providing you folks with the appropriate FFL information, what other issues prevent 078-000-400WB Mfr Part: APCR640312 from being shipped to Honolulu, HI?

Kim[6:57:13 AM] Hello, Welcome to Brownells, I am the 2014 and 2016 Bianchi Senior champion, 2017 3rd place Senior, 2017 Flagler Cup Senior Champion, 2016 Crawfish Regional Senior Champion, Member of the NRA World Action Pistol Team 2014 World Champions,  2012 Team 3rd  place, and 2016, 4th place

Kim[6:57:22 AM] Hi Kevin, let me look, hold on please.

Kim[7:01:55 AM] You have to be Military or Law enforcement to order this weapon in Hawaii

Kevin K[7:03:53 AM] Is this due to the magazine that comes with the firearm? If so, could we request to not receive that magazine?

Kim[7:04:19 AM] No it has to do with the compete gun

Kevin[7:10:58 AM] Would this be a Brownells policy as I do not identify anything with regards to Hawaii laws that would prohibit civilian ownership of this type of firearm.

Kim[7:12:14 AM] Yes

The specific rifle I was interested in:

Well that doesn't make any sense.
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

Just ordered the 30 round Lancer mags, got them with free shipping. they probably get their info from Wikipedia.

What states have bans on assault weapons?
Three U.S. states passed assault weapons bans before Congress passed the federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994: California in 1989, New Jersey in 1990, and Connecticut in 1993. Four others passed assault weapons bans before AWB 1994 expired in 2004: Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts and New York.

That doesn’t make any sense at all. Brownells needs to work on their policies. Perhaps you can have your local FFL ask a mainland gun shop/FFL to ship one over?

for instance, if Bud's Gun Shop carried it, or an FFL dealer on Gun Broker was selling one, or Davidson's Gallery of Guns had it for sale.

gun store makes all the rules in terms of what they want to do and whose business they want or dont want.  For example SEC doesn't honor C&R FFLs, that's their choice, no sense arguing.

Good old Brownells, not knowing jack about state laws. I built my own A1 retro rifle using their upper/lower receiver 1.5 years ago. Had no issues having them send the receivers to a local FFL.

Oh yeah, even to this day you can still order complete lowers to be sent to a FFL in Hawaii no issues. Complete uppers - a-ok. Dunno what their deal is with this line of guns.

Told a friend of mine who has TWO Colt SP1s and he laughed saying "you have a Colt 6721 and a BCM " they're already way better than that gun (Brownells Retro).

But alas he will NOT sell me one of his SP1s ...

Nah, I left it at that. No asking to speak to a manager or supervisor. I'll still patron Brownells as they've never done me wrong on anything. This was just odd considering what we CAN get from Brownells to be shipped to Hawaii and to Hawaii FFLs.

Good point.

My opinion is worthless, but IMO there's no law that says that firearm can't  be sold to a hawaii resident, and nothing that says it can't be shipped direct to a FFL001 or FFL003 (if over 50 years old).

honestly I do like brownells too, they tend to have better sales and their free shipping to hawaii is actaully free...  I do wish they carried a more extensive parts and component line though.
