i was on FB this afternoon and a friend posted about the florida shooting and how we should do something about this, yada, yada,etc. i posted the typical demonization of ar15's, how gun control wouldn't work, etc. when some women i don't know posted that i was like the shooter, nikolas cruz and i'm just like him and people like me should never be allowed in this world, etc. lol! i told her her meds weren't working and that she should change the dose. she said she would report me to the local police.......she did! cops were at my door! we had a good laugh.

There is no way to have a reasonable discussion online.   This was my experience on reddit when I said I had owned guns

FB is full of crybaby whiners

I still keep in touch with a bunch of college friends, many who still live in very Liberal Seattle. Anyways, they had a discussion going about how no one needs an AR15. I don’t engage in the open, so I messaged my “acquaintance” to correct some things.

I did get him to see many of my points, but yeah. Got the “your group” of gun enthusiasts being grouped with these deranged shooters. He asks me questions and throws out emotional reasons. I mean I have empathy, but he then refuses to want to hear about facts of matters. Going with what he knows and what he hears from MSM.

The uneducated, ignorant group things together with little regard to facts or any effort of understanding.

I corrected many things in his reasonings. He of course got super defensive along the way. I stuck with the facts. He then said that “it would be better if gun enthusiasts weren’t so defensive”. 

Then after correcting many of the things he was ignorant about, I made a comment that gun enthusiasts often gave to deal with ignorance and much of that is from folks who have no knowledge of firearms nor do they care to learn for themselves. I didn’t anywhere close to calling him ignorant. Well, he got super defensive and fired back some emotional tirade about referring to those calling for gun control ignorant. Like talking to a rock.

I get the most mileage out of having discussions in person and inviting people to the range. Putting a gun in someone’s hand does a great job of destigmatizing and removing the mystery from firearms.

I agree. I’ve gotten more than a few friend’s wives to accept firearms. A couple even eventually came to enjoy shooting and bought their own. Experiencing it with someone they trust really helps. Many are often too afraid to try.

Yeah, many don’t care to try. That’s cool, but it’s when those who have no experience with firearms spew ignorance about them drives me nuts.

I display different bumper stickers that are pro second amendment by my office desk every day. Right now I have one that says "Fight Crime Shoot Back". I'm an NRA life member and wear a shirt that displays this fact. I read the "American Rifleman" magazine at work and keep my magazines right on my desk.

Who gives a shit what people think. I just saw a decal on eBay that says "This is what the average gun owner looks like". That may end up in my eBay shopping cart and on my office wall.

I don't try to justify, rationalize, or reason to anyone about me exercising my first and second amendment rights. Their anti gun mentality is set. We just can agree to disagree. Just let me be and we will get along just fine.
