Panic buy on AR magazines?
« on: March 01, 2018, 06:51:38 PM »
GunMagWarehouse.com bumped-up mag prices over the last 24 hours $1-$2. Just checked Brownells, same deal. FLGS posted no more discounts for bulk mag purchases.

Question from someone who wasn't in the 2A-community during the old Assault Weapons Ban...did this happen then too? Was it worse? What was your experience then?

was not a gun owner during original AWB
but after sandy hook, AR and mag prices shot up
ammo, powders, and primers became scarce
.22lr became widely available only in the last year
primers and powders a little before that
ammo and guns took a couple years before shelves filled again

I think everyone has their fill of mags 8 years ago.  Maybe new gun owners might make a run?

When I checked Brownells today, they were having a magazine sale.  Dunno how the prices were a couple weeks ago.  They are one of the few that will ship to Hawaii so I took advantage of the "sale".

I recall the run on practically everything in 2012-2013 afternoon Sandy Hook. PMags were being sold on forum classifieds for ridiculous amounts. The “known quality” ones were out, but then others came around. C-Products, Hex, etc.

You couldn’t find AR lowers and they were super expensive when you did.

I think many stocked up pre-2016 election. Pricing was awesome after that as well, but urgency wasn’t there.

Just checked. PSA has a bunch of PMags left, but USGI out. BCM still has a bunch on stock, but no shipping to HI.

Can't remember about the mags but all assault weapon lookalikes went way up in price in the mid 90's AWB. Particularly as supplies dwindled down to the last few pieces. I believe it was late '96 or early '97. I bought an overpriced AR and AK-47's cost just as much. Uzi's were also very high priced. We were told in CA that any gun on the ban list would be grandfathered in. Including mags over 10 rounds. Then many years later they went back on their word and made all the grandfathered guns and mags illegal. I took the AR to AZ and sold it as I refused to turn it in. I can't remember what I paid but I should have bought the AK and Uzi as well.

Wanted to support the #BUYcott movement today and pick up some mags on the cheap, but i’m happy with my stash as is. Mag prices up 15-ish% doesn’t seem too bad yet....

As far as .22 is concerned, I do remember being glad to pay $30 for a box of Automatch...

Brownells sale must have been good, most AR mags (Magpul/Lancer) sold out except the 100 mag case. Midway still has same price.

Any threat of a ban is amplified dramatically because of the Internet, social media and online purchases. Back in 89 things traveled slow and were more localized. You had to pick up a phone or physically go to a store. When Clinton again lowered the hammer in 1994, people were more ready and almost anticipated it, at least in my neck of the woods. People weren't as prepared or ready as today. Since that first hit in 1989 on these weapons, we are always on the ready, so many people have stocked up and somewhat anticipate that a ban is always a possibility. Decades have passed and the thought of any ban, still brings the same outrage but with the Internet it's amplified. The MSM is so far leaning left and biased that everything gets distorted drastically and adds to the outrage.

Meh...
If you didn't load up when the 2013 craze blew over, then there's no hope for you. AR mags have been the cheapest they've ever been since they dried up during the 94 ban.

If you find yourself needing to buy during a panic you're doing it wrong.

Yabbut, it is fun to do something you know would enrage the leftists if they knew.  Need, vs just tossing a few more on the pile...............

Gazing upon so much inanimate evil would do my heart good.

I may buy some just to add on to the frenzy.  Too bad I have to real use for them...........

Interesting how the anti-gun agenda to ban "high capacity" magazines is in full swing, even though ...

"the19-year-old school shooter who killed 17 in Florida on Valentine’s Day had 150 rounds of ammunition in
10-round magazines.
Larger ones would not fit in his bag, Florida state senator Lauren Book revealed."

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Does brownells still ship AR mags to Hawaii? A friend of mines brother was trying to find some grey aluminum mags the past few weeks since he’s in the national guard but claims that they couldn’t ship to Hawaii.

Not optimistic...it used to show shipping restrictions by state, don’t see that anymore. Has he tried gunmagwarehouse?

they have in the past, 40rd P-mags and such...

I wouldn't be surprised in the near future they refuse to ship Geissele triggers to Hawaii.  like the new Super Speed Precision.
