I suspect most of you have already seen this (video at first story link; shorter version here: )), but just in case...

I also heard on NRA News that someone a while back, to counter one of the many claims about the "high powered weapon of war" having a tremendous recoil (aka "kcikback"), made a video of him firing an AR-15 with the buttstock placed against the tip of his nose. He survived without injury.

CNN Report Invents New Term: 'Full Semi-Automatic' AR-15s. Gun Experts Respond.

Gun experts are calling foul on a CNN report in which its gun specialist used the misleading term "full semi-automatic" when describing an AR-15.

The moment took place during a CNN report presented as "An Up-Close Look at the AR-15," which involves retired Lieutenant General Mark Hertling, someone who does not believe the AR-15 should be banned. However, at one point in his demonstration of how the gun operates, Lt. Hertling says he is going to use the gun in "full semi-automatic" mode. CNN follows his statement by stating that the AR-15 is "a weapon designed to inflict maximum damage."

After Blowback, CNN Gun Expert Explains His 'Full Semi-Automatic' AR-15 Comment

"The clip about AR 15s with @GaryTuchmanCNN shown on @AC360 tonight. This was a 90 minute discussion and firing put into a succinct 3-minute story by the pros at @CNN," wrote Hertling. "For all those critiquing my phrase 'full semi automatic,' you are correct. I was attempting to inform the crew that I was going from 'single shot' to continuous trigger and rapid trigger pull using the semiautomatic capability. My apologies...but perhaps you’re missing the point."

I can't do better than one of the comments posted below the second article re the "explanation":

Now I'm not a gun expert by any means, but this guy's apology didn't do him any favours. He wasn't using a "single shot" mode in the beginning--single-shot firearms need to be reloaded after every round. And he didn't switch to using the "semi-automatic capability"--the rifle was semi-automatic the whole time [and has no other mode of operation]. He also didn't use a "continuous trigger" because on a semi-automatic weapon, that only fires once.

I think he made more mistakes in his apology than in the original video...

Upper ranks don't fire rifles much in the military.  I'd trust the weapons knowledge of a active duty sergeant a lot more than a retired general.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

When I first qualified with an M16 the instructor said he'd put the butt in his crotch and not worry about the recoil.
I like my "Johnson" better than that.
I prefer 7.62 cal platforms over the 5.56.
7.62 has a little more kick, but the target generally
won't get up.

I know of field grades who have all Army tabs to include the P100.
