Youtube has new rules on firearm related videos
« on: March 19, 2018, 07:59:16 PM »
Youtube gun videos maybe coming to an end soon. They just released a new set of rules that are absurd. You can't even have reloading videos.

"Policies on content featuring firearms
YouTube prohibits certain kinds of content featuring firearms. Specifically, we don’t allow content that:

-Intends to sell firearms or certain firearms accessories through direct sales (e.g., private sales by individuals) or links to sites that sell these items. These accessories include but may not be limited to accessories that enable a firearm to simulate automatic fire or convert a firearm to automatic fire (e.g., bump stocks, gatling triggers, drop-in auto sears, conversion kits), and high capacity magazines (i.e., magazines or belts carrying more than 30 rounds).
-Provides instructions on manufacturing a firearm, ammunition, high capacity magazine, homemade silencers/suppressors, or certain firearms accessories such as those listed above. This also includes instructions on how to convert a firearm to automatic or simulated automatic firing capabilities.
-Shows users how to install the above-mentioned accessories or modifications."

Just left them a nice little note telling them where to stick you tube....

I also told them to check with their lawyers first before blatantly violating the 1st and 2nd Amendments. I can see banning videos showing how to convert a semi to auto (or anything violating the FCA) but reloading goes beyond the pale. I wonder if they will scour the videos or wait until someone reports them. Probably enough vigilantes out there to do the work for them.

They're not violating anything. It's a privately-owned service and they're free to set their TOS pretty much however they like. You have no constitutionally-guaranteed right to YouTube.

True, but it's worth a try.

You would need to cancel all Google accounts:  Google, Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, whatever else.  If you don't cancel all your accounts, it's like canceling cable TV and still using their internet and phone services.  Not much of a boycott!

Then contact the Google corporate offices in writing:

Not really, they make a ton of money off youtube, and the data it collects for their advertising. It would make an impact.  That being said, I wouldn't be opposed to cancelling everything you stated above as well..

For YouTube, there are several.  Many firearms channels are migrating to Patreon.  It was started as a site for musicians to post their videos and audio tracks, but it's getting videos from all over.

It uses a subscription/donation model to support the site and contributors rather than the ads like YT.

For serach engines, the best alternatives are DuckDuckGo, Bing, and DogPile.  I would place Yahoo way down in the 9th or 10th place for the top 10 of all search engines.  There's one called Yippy, but it's not its own engine.  it searches other engines and returns their results, kind of like the old Jeeves - renamed Ask - did.

Today I searched Youtube for several different assembly/build demos and got a LOT of results for each, so they haven't deleted those yet.

I downloaded a handy video to my computer on building an AR-15 lower receiver, just in case.

I am saving homemade gun videos.  Still available on YT.  No need to save how to make suppressor videos since they are easy to make, not to mention illegal and we all know as law abiding gun owners, none of us do anything illegal......I think.

I have been shying away from Google and using Bing more as a search engine.

InRangeTV has started moving their content onto Pornhub under the name inrangetvshow or something like that.
I don't understand why youtube would want to ban free knowledge, it's like the 18th century again where the nobles don't want the commoners to be enlightened.

You can click on the "no" button at the bottom of the new rules to submit your respectful and logical feedback. I would suggest giving feedback via any other method in addition to this one.

C&Rsenal made a youtube video with taofledermaus like this. It is fully censored and safe for work. It's hilarious too.

While this YouTube thing is quite concerning, the move to PornHub is the best thing I’ve heard my entire life so far. A new type of pr0n

As a lithmus test, I checked the views of their “Glock19 vs. Hudson 9” video per site (video uploaded 3/20/2018 across all sites, views as of 3/21/2018 @ 10:15pm):
YouTube - 22,058 views
Full30.com - 2,807 views
PornHub - 5,768 views
