What’s your favorite 7.62x39 ammo? For whatever reason. Price, accuracy, etc.

I’m gearing up to shoot my AK more as I mod one of them. I have a bunch of WPA and a lesser amount of Norinco China Sports ammo. I got the Norinco with an AK I got from an estate sale and it was a mix of either steel or lead core and FMJ. I’m really looking forward to trying the Norinco.

I’ve also shot various of the “Bear” AK ammo as well as Tula. For me, I’m looking for closest I can get to $200/1000 price, functions well and “good enough” accuracy (16” x 16” at 200 yards).

Kaleo has stuff but haven't tried GT. Personally I reload even though the AK is rough on brass.

I still have a small batch of Norinco 9mm. I had 14k or 15k rounds at one time. Best practice ammo I ever had. Accurate reliable cheap and loaded hot. I would guess it was in the +P range but it is by feel only. I have not chronographed the ammo. If the 9mm I have is anything like your AK ammo, it might prove to be very good ammo. Too bad it is no longer available in the U.S.

I doubt that you'll be able to find AK ammo for $200/1000 since those are mainland prices.  you will be lucky if you can get it for around $250/1000 (25 cents per round) locally.

if you reload, you'll probably spend about 12 cents per round on powder (about 9 cents) and primer (3 cents).  if you find a bullet that is 13 cents per, then that puts you at 25 cents per round, not including the cost of brass.

most bullets in this caliber will realistically be 18 cents per piece at a minimum.  this means that you're already at 30 cents per round, not including cost of brass.

therefore, 25-26 cents per round locally just makes sense.  and the best part about it is that you don't feel bad if you can't find your brass in the grass.

I'm looking for closest I can get to $200/1000.  I've seen as low as $230ish locally in the past year.  Willing to pay around $250ish range though.  Similar thinking for when I shop for 9 mm and 5.56/.223.  I have a pricing range that goes from "I'm gonna buy, even if I have a good amount" to "I'm willing to buy when I'm running low". 

Yeah, I do check out what's available online that my friend on the mainland can get, and try not to get too depressed.  Haha.  But I try to be understanding of the constraints of ammo availability and pricing in Hawaii.

You should!  I've shot the ACE and it was nice.  I've only seen videos of the Rifle Dynamics AKs and they seem good, but quite pricey. 

Do more classes!  You'll have the $$$ in no time.  Well, you'd have to squirrel it away from your wifey and maybe skimp on diapers.

Yeah, that holster is pricey.  Thankfully, my 17 with RDS fits pretty much all the same holsters since I don't have the comp.  Just that the serrations are more aggressive, so I've noticed that they tend to shave off some kydex here and there. . .

Yeah I got the 6354 for a G34 so it fits my 19 with comp and my 17.  Awesome active retention holster.  Now I can go play on jungle gyms with my kit without having to worry about shit falling out.

Yeah. I saw their post.  I did some research on the Red Army stuff and seems like it's pretty crappy.  But those reviews aren't recent and like much of that kind of ammo, depends on sourcing.  Russian, Romanian, etc.

I'm also not expecting tack driving ammo.  6-8" at 50 yards is "about right".  I haven't shoot that much7.62x39, but I like the WPA stuff and many of the bears.  Brown and Silver I think.  I'd love to try more Tula.  That used to be readily available in both 7.62x39 and .223, but haven't seen as much recently.  Reliable function is also very important for me.

Reviews I read on the RAS was hard for me to decide on overall quality.   There are lots of the "well, I've shot a box of 20 and it's crap ammo, can't hit a 16" plate at 50 yards" types and then a few "I've shot thousands and thousands of rounds and maybe 10 duds per 1000" types.  Lots of the former, but only a few of the latter.  I am still tempted to try it out though.   

Really like the Red Army variety due to sealed primers and projectiles for long storage. RAS Accuracy has been right there with both Wolf and Tula for me. Have always wanted to try the Golden Tiger, not sure who carries locally though.

Golden Tiger is all I buy.  Less than $200/1000 too.  Russian, sealed, and a coattail bullet.  Hard to beat.
