Installing a URX II rail?
« on: March 28, 2012, 01:01:03 PM »
Anyone got any experience installing a URX rail?  My question is, can the rail be installed without the removal of the low profile gas block and flash hider?  I was thinking about building an upper.  It will be my first build.  Was gonna buy a barrel that was pinned and welded with a pinned low pro gas block....but that wouldn't be a good idea if the rail can't be installed with those two things already attached.

Thanks.  :shaka:

Sorry man, I'm not familiar with that rail system.  Do you happen to have a link/pictures of it?

You can not install any rail on a barrel that has a pinned/welded muzzle device unless the barrel nut is already on it. If the barrel with pinned and welded muzzle brake/flash hider already has a URX barrel nut in good condition on it, then yes you can install an URX rail.

Pinned gas block is no big deal, easy to remove.

I believe that the barrel nut is proprietary for the URX.  Therefore you would to need to get a KAC wrench for the installation of the nut.  Unless you can find someone w/ the wrench already (i.e. gunsmith, friend etc..)

Yep, you'd need the wrench too (OGC has one).

Most free floated rails have a proprietary barrel nut that requires a specific wrench however Knight's is the only one to charge $200+ for a wrench. Most rails either include the wrench or will sell them for $10-$50.
