"Arsenal" of "military style weapons": Crossbow, ski mask and ballistic vest (Read 4769 times)

punaperson

Just when you didn't think you couldn't possibly hear anyone say anything dumber that what you've heard in the past month, today we get this. You have to go to 2:08 of the video report to hear the reporter make that statement... for some reason they left it out of the printed story. I guess crossbows are next on the "military weapons of war" ban list ("Who needs a high powered crossbow?") as the inch becomes the mile. Can butter knives be far behind?

I''m not doubting that this person may have said things and/or done things that may warrant investigation, just the over-the-top reporting using the currently "hot" terminology, no matter how inaccurate.

Foreign Exchange Student Built Arsenal For Planned School Attack

Upper Darby police showed evidence they say they pulled from Sun’s bedroom, including a military-style ballistic vest, ski mask, military web gear with pouches to hold ammunition clips, a high-powered crossbow and arrows, a bullet loading dock for an AR-15 and AK-47, an empty box for a gun-making kit, 20 live round, ear protectors for firing, and a strangulation device called a garrote.

Looks like the little fella made himself some 80%ers that are still on the loose.

He only had 20 rounds?

He only had 20 rounds?

20 "live" rounds.  Which begs the question, what other kind of rounds can you have?
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

What the hell is a "loading dock"?

What the hell is a "loading dock"?
The lula thing?   ???

What the hell is a "loading dock"?
There is a picture of it with the story.

Slightly different model/manufacturer, but same idea:

I can't tell if that is the full semi-auto or the machine gun version. Definitely military though.

Ahh.  A friend has a "loading dock" he made for .223 and 7.62x39. He carved the "paths" on the same board that is maybe 12" x 18"  Works really good!  I still prefer the lulas, but that loading dock makes loading mags super fast!

must...use...sensational...adjective.....

20 "cop killing" rounds
20 "innocent student slaughtering" rounds
20 "with 1050000000000000000000 atoms of death inducing lead each" rounds.
20 "lead poisoning inducing, illegal in 12 countries, tactical vest piercing, high velocity, known to cause cancer in California" rounds

You left out: 20 "incendiary-tipped heat-seeking bullets that if you shot a deer with it you'd cook it" rounds.

maglula with the little toggle switch thingy for rifle mags is awesome and a lot easier to transport to the range than that big cutting board.  I dont particularly care for the pistol maglulas as much, they work similar to the glock factory loader almost.  At least the one I have.

To topic, what about the guns and ammo that this kid obviously has stashed away somewhere - are they going to beat the snot out of him to get him to give up the location or are they going to let him out such that he retrieves his weapons and still commits an act of violence.  I'm fairly certain they would absofkinglutely LOVE to parade around a few ghost guns if they went apeshit over a damn crossbow lol.  After all, he may have committed some kind of crime regarding terroristic threatening, but they cant keep him locked up forever.

But what if the kid said something and was never going to do it.  Where do we draw the line on preemptive arrests for crimes not yet committed i.e. Minority Report?

Yeah, the "empty gun kit box" will definitely provoke some serious interrogation. Being from Taiwan, I wonder if he's familiar with the frequency of boating accidents? Who knows what the local penalties are for crimes like "terroristic threatening", even if the next sentence uttered was "I'm joking". Nowadays there ARE no "jokes" in certain locations (airports, schools, government buildings, etc.) about certain topics without the risk of arrest, suspension, expulsion, termination, etc. The article says they sent him for a mental health evaluation, so if he does poorly on that they might be able to involuntarily commit him for a while and keep him under wraps while they look for more weaponry if he doesn't give it up. After the way the FBI, Broward County sheriff's department and school and school system monumentally screwed up at Parkland, I'm sure these authorities are going to go to the other extreme. I wonder if we'll ever see a follow-up, especially if he is deemed harmless?
