since it's John Browning's birthday tomorrow, i'll be shooting my Springfield RO Elite Target to honor the man, the myth, the legend

Did you know . . . .
John Browning's shop was 2 doors over from The Nauvoo Expositor in Nauvoo IL right on the Mississippi River which was ordered by the Nauvoo city council to close down for libel for a story by the newspaper in June of 1844 which exposed Joseph Smith as a liar, schemer, and contriver.

Joseph Smith, then mayor of Nauvoo burned it down instead

It was the newspapers first and last edition.
Smith was later arrested and taken to the next towns jail for his own safety but was literally shot behind bars while incarcerated.
This led to a war which you probably know nothing of where 1,000's died (Nauvoo was bigger than Chicago at the time)
The Mormons lost and were exiled from Nauvoo and went on to the "Journey of tears" in which hundreds if not thousands more died, most in the "Great Plains Fire" of 1844.
They carried on to Nevada where they built the humble town of Las Vegas.

When the Gold Rush of 1888 flooded Vegas with gambling, girls and liquor, the Mormons most likely from experience decided to leave instead of fighting,

I give you SLC.
And now you know !
