Ahh.  My 6.5 is on it's way back from the builder.  Should arrive today or tomorrow.  I have 50 rounds loaded up for some initial testing and fire forming, but mostly for barrel speed up.  I have a next batch of .308 loaded up as well, but will be shooting pistol and carbine this weekend. 

Post pics when you have a chance to shoot the 6.5, and I think a 270?

Beautiful weather yesterday afternoon but windy like heck.
Had to try to wait between gusts.
I gotta gain weight as, looking through the scope, wind blows me all over as much as the bullet.
Always good fun though.

Weekdays are awesome if you can make it.

I was more thinking you have double the ammo for you to shoot. . .

The 6.5 came back yesterday, so have it back in the chassis and scope mounted.  Will see if I can get that gun to the range this weekend.

I calculate it would cost me $31.08 in fuel costs for a round trip to the range.

edited to add:  Forgot to say, LET'S GO BRANDON!  (He blames Pootin but everyone knows it's him)

edited to add again:  Made mistake.  Cost would be $20.72 in fuel costs.  Gotta be fair to Brandon but I still say LET'S GO BRANDON!

Cost me about $11.00 in gas. ( figuring two+ gallons)
Around $50.00-$70.00 total on average + or - with ammo cost included.
Cheaper than most golf and more relaxing.
Not much more than bowling nowadays (with beer tab) or movies with wife ( and snack bar tab)

I'd love to shoot on week-ends but most times there's family stuff or wife-stuff to do.  And I figure week-ends would be busier.

Since I'm retired, I've been visiting KHSC on weekdays.  I go early to secure a table but there are times I am surprised that by 12:00 all the tables on rifle side is taken.  Last time I went on a Thursday and I arrived at 11:00 am and there were only 5 tables left.  By 11:30 all tables were taken.

Pistol side on weekdays are not that bad.

Yes, for me I wish the range was closer but I'm grateful there is a place to shoot, albeit the rules are a bit strict and the distances are limited to 100 yards (not a biggie for me since my eyes are getting bad anyway).

What really irritates me more than the range distance and costs of fuel is the traffic.  Even on weekdays the traffic at the Middle street, Liliha, Kinau, and Punahou corriders are horrendous.

Then there is the traffic along Kalanianaole......

That's good to know that on weekends later in the day is a good time and a good chance to get a bench.

On my weekday visits, I also notice that around 1:30 to 2:00 the benches start to clear out.  So one weekday I decided to go around 1:00.  Unfortunately it was a bit busy and I got a bench around 2:00 or so.  Problem with that is I was only able to shoot till 3:00 because on weekdays I pick up my wife after she gets done with work and she works in Halawa Valley.  She get's done at 3:30 so I have to be really careful and mindful of the cease fire schedule so I can grab my target, pack up and get out of there.

For some shooters an hour is enough if they only want to verify the zero on their rifle but I like to stay as long as possible and shoot the hell out of my firearms.  So for me going later during the week is not worth it for the time traveling to and from the range and then only getting to shoot for an hour.  This is why I go early on weekdays and have my fingers crossed that I can get a table at 12:00 and shoot until 3:00. 

I need the 3 hours to at least put 3 bullet holes in my target.  The other 300 or so rounds end up under and over the target in the dirt.

Or mangling and destroying the target frame.......

if you aren't shooting you should get off the bench

Some guys hang out walking around talking story with rifle on the bench.

I generally pop about 40 to 50 rounds per rotation. ( each half hour.)
Definitely gotta watch the clock for the ending of rotation.
My bigger bolt gun, way less than that. Maybe ten or twenty per rotation.
Sometimes just reload mags for the last 5 minutes.
Over 100 to 150 rounds I can’t afford it, (except .22)

Afternoons after lunch time the morning crew generally packs up and benches open.
I don’t go all the time so just talking from my experience the times I go.
Weekday I just cruise back through Waimanalo.
Weekend I go back through town.

Hopefully I’ll be there next week or weekend.
