I'd like to know why the DHS needs that many rounds of ammunition? What do they do that requires that? Plans against an insurrection? Anarchy maybe? Hopefully someone here with some better or inside knowledge can enlighten me?

That's for when they come for our guns.
They're preparing for after the election when it becomes illegal for us to own guns and they need to disarm....
Nah I dunno.

I wish I could stock up on that much ammo....

Then again....I've seen some of them shoot. They really need the practice.

This is also going to cause a shortage in the ammo arena for those of you looking for 223 and 40 ammo. Hopefully it will be short lived but considering people are starting to stock up before the election this could not have come at a worse time.

The timing of this before the election is kind of weird. Not sure what to make of it?

Millions of rounds of ammo to be bought by ICE and DHS.

http://www.businessinsider.com/us-immigration-agents-are-loading-up-on-as-many-as-450-million-new-rounds-of-ammo-2012-3

I'll take a guess here and say that as an agency they have a budget. Money that was set aside for things like training & upkeep. Like most big government budgets, they must spend it all. Who knows maybe DHS & ICE have a deal with the ammo company, buy one get one free.
The question we need to ask is, what gov. oversight commitee approved this and why? Who is on that commitee? By the time the departments/agencies get their toys - some one in a much higher place already said they can play.

i really don't see this as all that big of a deal. the USMC uses over 165 million rounds of 5.56 just for annual training.

I dunno. It seems like a lot to me. How many DHS and ICE guys are there that carry compared to the USMC? And that's what... Only the .40?
Of course I don't know shit and just going by what I read very quickly so don't listen to me.

DHS is a consolidated agency that includes many organizations and they operate FLETC, that handles training for ALL federal law enforcement and some state & local departments. Taking that into consideration, 450 million rounds over 5 years is not that much.

(There are approximately 320,000 Marines and 120,000 Full time Federal LEO's)

Why would they train with JHP?  Why not get cheap ball for training?  Oh that's right, they didn't have top drop a dime on the cost, you paid for it.

Just wait till "Green" lead free, pure copper or bronze ammo is mandated. The cost will skyrocket.

When I went through Glynco all we shot was lead free/powdered tin crap ammo.  Maybe good ammo is the trade off for not having a raise for the last few years.

With the government buying that much ammo, it will probably affect the available supply and bring prices up.  It is probably a good move for the government to buy the ammo cheaply with an order that big since it's value will probably appreciate.
I think, therefore I am armed.
