April Floods

Wondering if anyone here was severely affected by the floods here and on Kauai.  The pics of Kauai and Hawaii Kai were crazy.  27+ inches of rain in a day.

My BIL’s uncle had the bottom level of his house flooded out. Reported water reaching maybe 5’ high. He lives a bottom of Niu Valley. He had called my BIL in a panic and said his house was gonna fall down. My BIL is a structural engineer and he evaluated the next day. Will need lots of cleanup, but otherwise the house is ok.

I’ve worked on the Hanalei Bridge before. That bridge is flooded out often. But from the video I saw, that was worse than I’ve seen since I first worked on that bridge in 2004.

The rain gauge at my friend's nursery in Waimanalo rose 5.5 inches in 45 mins at the peak of the storm.  He said it was the heaviest rain he has seen in tne 30 years he has been there.

I didn't think that was possible.  Fortunately Aiea was spared, didn't rain much here.

Westside just got some sprinkles, but the light show over the mountains was insane. Nobody had any idea that was going to develop, which is the scary part.

The good news is that the vasy majority of the people who live there have serious, serious cash, so they won't be affected too much outside of being uncomfortable.
