Kokohead rifle range distances?
« on: March 31, 2012, 05:05:55 PM »

noob question alert....

I was just wondering what are the different rifle range distances that i can set up my target frame. I need to (finally) zero in my AK and it seems I need to zero in at 25 - 27 yards. Was reading KHSC website and only mentions gong target at 200 yards.

The majority of positions at the rifle range have holes for target stands at 50 and 100 yards.  The 3-4 benches at the extreme right side have holes at 25 yards.  There are 2 (I think) sets of holes at 200 yards for common use.  And there are steel targets at a variety of distances from 200 - 440 yards.

50 and 100 yards is where the holes are set up.

When are you going?

50 and 100 yards is where the holes are set up.

Why for you ignore the holes at 25 and 200???

They're not at every shooting lane.

Only at two or so tables.

Most people can only set up in holes at 50 & 100.

OK, for all the other people who are gonna be shooting at the rifle range on the weekend (for the first time).......show up at about 5-6am to get a bench and camp out if you wanna be part of the first group of shooters. Otherwise, sign the waiting list, find some shade, and catch some  . Luckily I was able to find KK and cruise with him at his bench until my name was finally called lol. Good times KK  :geekdanc:

Alternately, just show up and shoot prone.  I showed up today at about 9:30, put my name on the waiting list for a bench after about 30 other people, some from 7AM, then went and plunked down at a prone station and proceeded to get all my .30-06 shooting done.  I was in the process of transferring to the .22 when they called my name, but I decided to stay where I was.

There was consistently room in the all-prone section down at the left end of the range, and the spaces between most of the benches were open as well.

lulz you were there today as well?! both sides of the rifle range looked pretty full, even the prone section at the far left side was packed.

That's exactly what I plan to do every time I go there. I've decided to use the opportunity to learn a different shooting position. Fortunately, I haven't had a problem getting a bench.

I had a good time at the range.

Tried to get "flipdog" to shoot my left handed AK but he said that compared to his milled SA-M7, mine was sub par. Haha

Set up my gongs at 50 & 100 yards and shot a few of the 300+ yarders. There's a certain sense of satisfaction with hitting a gong at 300+ yards without a magnified scope.  :D

He just wanted to make sure I wasn't shooting my AK at the gong at 50 yards.

I shoot the 100 yard gong with the AK and usually set up the 50 yard one for the 10/22.

A few weeks ago I purchased an AR500 steel plate and set it up at the ~320 yard swing.  What a freaking dumb move.  It Didn't even last the whole time I was there before some fool shot the chain off!  Then this Saturday I did not see it up there anymore! WTF!  Goes to show, "No good deed goes unpunished."

If anyone knows about this either fix it up and put it back, or return it to me so I can fix it up.  Thanks

That's downright sad.

Maybe it got shot down to the ground.

Did you walk out and check?

That sucks.  I have a friend who is a welding apprentice and I was going to have him help me fabricate something to add some variety to the range.  That and the plate on that bar in the little valley at around 450 yards keeps getting knocked down.  I haven't walked out there yet, but I've heard that it can be a PITA to get up to that bar in that little valley.

I thought those gongs hung on chains until last weekend when I saw some shooters dismantle their gongs at the 100 yard mark. What look like chains from a distance was actually pretty thick rebar. Takes two of those guys to set up and tear down.
