I used chains and bolts to set it up. Bad move on my part. Chains and bolts are bullet magnents. Hehe. I had the chains lying around and the hole in the plate were not large enough to fit those rebar that is up there. AR 500 is too hard to drill out and I can't torch burn it larger beacuse it'll ruin the plate hardness. Welding on ar500 is a technique in itself to keep the properties.

I didn't go up and look last time. I am hoping it is in the grass up there or something. If I can find some 1/2" rebar I'll set it back up.

That's probably why they don't put it up. The rebar is too fat to fit through the hole.
I hope they don't decide to burn the hole larger.  :-\

wow I thought those steel gongs way in the back were put up by the range and not other shooters' property.

Maybe once upon a time.  You know, back when they did things like fix holes (or missing sections) in the roof, and replace shot-up target stand holes, and clean the toilets.  Now, you can generally figure that: it it's nice, someone donated it; if it works, someone volunteered their time to fix it; if you like it, it wasn't something that the management did.  ;)
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

The majority of positions at the rifle range have holes for target stands at 50 and 100 yards.  The 3-4 benches at the extreme right side have holes at 25 yards.  There are 2 (I think) sets of holes at 200 yards for common use.  And there are steel targets at a variety of distances from 200 - 440 yards.

Another noob question... those benches with the 25yd holes, do they also have holes for 50 and 100 yds?  I want to zero my AR @ 50 yds but be able to shoot at all three of those dstances.  And what time is early enough to reserve a bench?  I plan on gettin to Kokohead round 6ish on Sunday.  Thanks in advance for any help. :shaka:

I think the bench or two with holes at 25yds may not have holes at 100yds. But that is by my failing memory. The Black Powder Club built the benches at that end of the range along with other modifications like the concrete stairs. They come SUPER early and reserve all the benches they need for their morning shoot on Sunday. They are very nice people and if you ask them nicely they will probably be happy to share a bench with you so you can shoot at 25yds. Or at the least let you have the bench you want once they leave which is around 11:30-12:00pm. If you want to beat the BP guys out there I would suggest 4-4:30am as I have been there at 5am and there was someone there already setting up.

For all the trouble it is worth I wouldn't bother with 25yds for an AR. I would sight in at 50yds and shoot for groups at 100yds. And once you are satisfied with your performance at 100yds then go for the farther targets.

Thx for the reply Inspector.  Guess I'll go early and see whats available.  I'm not using any magnification so thats why I was thinking shoot 100 yd max and do a 50 yd zero.  It would just b nice to shoot @ 25yds.

I agree with Inspector.  If you want to get one of the benches on the far right, you'll have to get there SUPER early, particularly on a Sunday.

If you have a ranging device, I've seen some people set up their own target at 25 yards.  Anywhere from a simple stake in the ground to a full on wooden stand.  I'd check with the RO first though.

FWIW, I don't have any magnified optics on my ARs and zeroing at 50 yards is not a problem.  Having a support like a Lead Sled helps, but just a front rest/bag would be good enough.

Ok, so to just get a bench would 0600 not b early enough?  From what I've read, 25yd shooting is just not going to happen for me this Sunday.  Which is fine. I plan on doin some pistol shooting also. ;D

I've never been to the rifle range early on a Sunday, but I think you probably could get a bench on a Sunday at around 6 am, just probably not one all the way down on the right side.  You could try Saturday morning, but even then I've gotten there at around 6 am and most times there are at least a few guys on the tables at the far right.  I typically look for a bench closer to the RO office, so no problem for me.

Pistol is a different story.  What may work for you is to shoot pistol (either bullseye or silhouette) and wait for a table with the 25 yard stands to clear up.  I've seen them clear up between 12-1 ish on Sunday afternoons.  But then you might not have much time to do what you want to get done.

I go to the rifle side on Sunday and arrive between 5 and 5:15am. Usually, by 6am the benches are either taken or are close to being taken. With that said, on a holiday weekend Sundays are sometimes not very busy and 6am would be okay for a bench. Last year I came Sunday early during the Shooting Sports Fair and it was packed. But it was hard to tell if it was packed with shooters or lookie loos. I can tell you there will be one less bench being taken early as I will be volunteering at the Fair this year. If you are going Saturday then 6am might be okay for a bench. For pistol I usually arrive at 8:30am just in case it is one of those rare days when the pistol side goes on a waiting list.

Just understand that I am speaking generally and arriving early may not net you a bench and arriving later may still find one available. It really changes week to week. What I have noticed is that generally I am seeing more and more people show up earlier. And the benches get taken earlier.

It will be packed this weekend more than likely but it may be just a bunch of observers. Not necessarily packed with shooters. It literally will be a crap shoot this weekend.

What about using a plasma cutter?  Will that do the job?

Please don't be that guy that sets up all three (or two) targets at once and ends up shooting the frames out on other people.

I'm no competition shooter, but my shoot isn't that bad.  It's goin to be my first time @ Kokohead, not shooting.

^^^What I mean a lot of the guys shooting are frikken cockeyed.  They don't look at where they are shooting before they take their frames out.  Shoot some of the guys can't even figure out if you're going to poach one of the prone stalls then you use that for your 100 yard target and the 50 yard your actual benchrest lane.

Basically what I mean is with bullet pass through if you are not shooting on your lane at 50 yards, you will be hitting the 100 lane one bench over.  I've gotten my frame back before and I get PO'd because someone's been sticking their 223 stuff in my frame when I'm shooting 308. :grrr:

I've had that happen to me lots of times.  I'm shooting my 308 at 100 yards and I see a bunch of holes that were probably 22 lr in my cardboard and MY FRAME!  But I guess it's not bad.  I've shot my own stand with 5.56/.223 and my dad has shot my stand with 30-06 as well.
