Today's project.....





Total cost of this catcher about $15 - $17. The most expensive component was the fishing net at $9 and the rest was the pvc pipe and fittings. Very quick to put together and I can't wait to go back to the range and test this puppy out 


I don't reload, but I just don't like to have to keep apologizing to the next shooter for pelting them with hot brass lol

That looks pretty easy to make.  I might have to copy that.  Maybe put sand or even concrete in the pipe.  I might try to figure a way to make it telescope as well.  Thanks for the idea.

actually, making it telescope is one of the "main ideas" behind this design that I haven't completed yet. the pipe holding the net is hiding the net handle. I was thinking about those adjustable weight lifting benches and drilling a hole in the net handle and multiple holes in the "net-pipe" and using a peg. That way it folds and telescopes.

Yeah, I think you will definitely need some sort of weight or sandbags for the base to keep in place.  I have a pretty large net that I bought on the internet for when I shoot rifles (mostly for my ARs) and it would flop all over if I didn't have sand bags. 

For pistol, I bought one of the nets that Tony sells (one of the RO's for the pistol side).  It has a telescoping post and you can also tilt the angle of the net.  It's really useful.  I am not particularly handy to fashion up something like that, so I usually end up just buying something.  For me, that extra cost is worth my sanity that I would be sure to lose if I had tried to make something myself.

For Rifle I've used an old (short) Mic stand that I had laying around along with a fishing net bought from Sports Authority.  The bottom is weighted so it withstands the wind to include telescopic that reaches tall enough for me to shoot offhand.  I also took a coated wire hanger and inter-laced it into the net as seen in the pic.  As you can see you can get fairly creative with the wire hanger.  PS...never mind that it's my wife shooting her favorite rifle.

I seen that too before, it was an older gentlemen.  My mic stand is currently serving dual purpose, as I've became re-active in the music scene.

According to SameDayMusic.com it's about $30.00 you'll also need a Mic clip for roughly about $6.00. 

Try checking out the local music shops (Easy Music) to compare.  However for anything I need to order for music I choose the above referenced site.  They honor free shipping when advertised, if not super cheap rates.  Sorry if I sound like I'm making a plug for SameDayMusic.

Just a heads up for those who want a brass catcher: the large nets are currently for sale at longs. Made myself one like flipdog's photos and it cost less than $15 for all the materials.

My brass catcher (rifle) is a used fishing net ($1 at the swap meet), the handle cut and screwed onto a piece of scrap 1 X 8.  I have it mounted so that the net is more or less flush against the side of the wooden rifle rest, and I weight it down with my ammo.  Works fine and only cost less than $2. 

For pistol, years ago I bought a commercially made adjustable one that works fine, but it's too tall for the rifle side, hence the fishing net.

I was thinking of using BB's to add some weight, just need some gap filling foam to stop them from moving around or spilling. I also cut an extension piece so it can be tall enough to work on the pistol side.
