Registering Multiple Firearms - Efficiency vs. Courtesy
« on: April 23, 2018, 08:26:06 AM »
When going to HPD to register firearms, how many is too many? I'd like to minimize the number of visits to HPD, so I'm thinking save up a bunch of money, buy everything I want, then limiting purchases to ammo/accessories for at least 4-5 years. At the same time, I know I wouldn't be the only person in line: everyone's got somewhere to be and I don't want to take too much time at the window. I'm thinking three to register is not unreasonable, but thoughts/comments are appreciated.  :shaka:

Register as many as you want.  That said, I've been in line behind folks that have registered over a dozen firearms.  Yeah, it takes a while for sure.  I usually would go on my days off, so while it would eat more into my day off, whatever.  But I do understand that there are folks that have to go in on their lunch hour and stuff and that kind of delay would really mess things up.  But think of the person that has to register his firearms, they'll need to make multiple trips.

Overall, I would say 3 firearms at a given visit is good.  Too many?  I would say more than 6, but that's mostly if I was stuck behind the person.   ;D

I would say the only limitation would be how much you can carry or wheel in.  Your time is important too, more so if you live far away.  Although I would feel bad for the person behind me, I also have more important things to do than stand in lines at HPD.

No such thing as too many ;-)

I would say in the end, you can do whatever you want.  We don't know your schedule and you also don't want to miss the 5 day window.

But maybe post in the "hows the line at HPD" or here when you plan on going.  This way others can plan accordingly if you got 12 guns or something.

Next year I'm going to write a bill making the handgun permit like the long gun one, and extend it out to 3 years.

Wasn't there a bill introduced this last session to make handgun permits like rifle permits??

Someone submitted a bill to Ihara for that last year.  Received no support and didn't get a committee hearing.

https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/Archives/measure_indiv_Archives.aspx?billtype=SB&billnumber=876&year=2017

Could try that one again.  It still required you to apply for a permit for each handgun but excluded the 14 day wait.  None of the legislators gave it any thought.  Including the one who introduced it.

Whomever writes a bill needs to push it along.  What I see most of the time is people write the bill and submit it to their rep, but they expect the rep or other people to push it along.  Doesn't work like that.

I would never be irritated with a person bringing in a bunch to do.  I'd put the blame where it belongs, squarely at the feet of our asinine laws and lawmakers.

100% bro.  When I see a guy, usually military that just got stationed here bringing cases and cases to register I've never gotten irritated with him, I just feel sorry for the poor bastard lol.

Yeah.  I haven't irritated at them and do feel sorry for them.  I have overheard many grumbling who get stuck behind them or the person having to register grumbling as well.  I feel for them.  I have accepted the registration process as something that I have to do.  While I don't like it, I have never gotten that irritated about it.  At least until RapBack.

Most of us have had the experience of getting in line behind the military transfer with a crap load of firearms to register. they don't have a choice and I've never seen anyone behind them get upset about it.  We know the drill.

You might hear a Dammit from behind, just like someone who craps out in Vegas. Luck of the draw when you show up.
Some guys gotta go back to the meter to add quarters.
I always put extra because you never know how long it will take.

I once was behind a guy with a moderate cardboard box. He pulled out like 14 stripped lower receivers. I just laughed. Told him he must have found a good deal.

I would say the only limitation would be how much you can carry or wheel in.

You are wasting your time.
The committee chairmen will not allow it to be brought up.
Gun rights are dead in this state. They do not even
observe our own laws.
Our best bet is to get together,
get a guy to be busted for concealed carry
with an un-registered gun, but has a conceal carry
license from another state, then
run it to the SCOTUS and hope we get
one more constitutionalist judge
appointed by the time the case gets
there.

What would be better is have 2500 or more open carry, guns can be unloaded, at a rally for gun rights and see if they can arrest, process and find jail space for everyone.  Such a thing is a pipe dream but it would great if it happened.

Ahh, good idea, won't make me feel so bad when I roll up with the hand truck full of cases :D

I've learned over the past few years that patience is definitely good for the soul. Getting pissy or angry won't help the process along, so just best to be calm...we're all in the same crapback boat.

If you are new to shooting, I wouldn't necessarily buy a lot now just to have the convenience of bringing them in to register at one time.  This can lead to purchasing remorse because as you gain more experience your desires, wants, needs will definitely become more clear.

This buying spree has been on the mind for years and has only been possible thanks to the new corporate tax rate. Even still, dropping $2k-$3k at one time on anything is something I'd never take lightly.  :)
