Then you'll get an email confirmation with a new total where they add the shipping back on.  I inquired about it and they told me that not all shipping to Hawaii is free (OK, then dont say so on the order page right?).  They then credited me back the shipping charge.

I ordered again today - same story.  Tacked on $10 shipping charge for items that definitely do not cost $10 to ship.  I emailed to cancel my order.

Mine says that too - check the "Brownells Confirmation Number" email that comes after.  Thats where they sneakily slip in the "bad news". 

Scam?  Theyve been made aware of this practice months ago.

Edit: Some things might be shipping free and they might not modify that confirmation email total.  But beware, this is the second time its been done to me.

It appears to be policy and they'll only "make it right" if you catch it and complain.

I've previously purchased thousands of dollars from Brownells and the free shipping was always free.  I drifted away from Midway because of their not free, free shipping.

Just a heads up on this - I believe they're manually doing it based on weight potentially.  This time, I ordered a very small quantity of empty brass cases.  Maybe they only give you free shipping if you order griptape for your Glock?

For reference, the first time they did this to me was in February of this year.

I went and checked.  No funny charges yet.  One order in early this month and one in December for really small stuff, a red dot and a trigger so maybe they wouldn't have adjusted anyway.   I also have the edge club free shipping so maybe that stops the computer from trying to add the charge?

Might be the case - just be aware that theyre doing it to some of us.  I honestly wouldn't have caught it even though I'm the kind of guy that checks his receipts at the bar/restaurant with scrutiny (pake to the core).  The first email in both cases was accurate with no ship charges. 

Anyway, I dont mind about the shipping charge really - its just a part of life in less accessible places.  I do care about bait-and-switch.

Ahh.  Thanks for the heads up!  I am always wary of shipping charges.  Good to hear that things have settled down with Midway.  I stopped shopping with them for a while because of their ridiculous shipping. 

They claim I have been overcharged (their mistake?), and refunded me the $10 again.

I dont know if I've been put on the naughty list over there or what - I'm just irritated I have to watch them so closely now lol

Fine print on that one says HI, AK, and territories are excluded from free shipping.  Makes things more complicated now, but if theyre only going to charge $10 for something heavy, I can live with that.

I agree.  There was one vendor where the policy was "We'll email you with any additional shipping charges after completion of checkout."  Left that site quick and never went back.

I don't get it. USPS offers flat rate shipping to all 50 States. This perceived shipping prejudice against Hawaii and Alaska seems out of date and obsolete. They need to get with the times. Heck, I'm starting to get USPS shipments from Amazon on Sundays.

I just checked and the M3P code still works which gives us free shipping and 10% off of $100. I usually check the coupons in gun.deals to see what's available.
