Do you do anything in particular in your preps with respect to your vision?

I think back to many movies where someone loses of breaks their glasses.  Like in The Mummy where the guy is practically blind without his glasses and his gets stepped on. 

My vision isn't that bad.  My right (dominant) eye is "ok" for distance, but my astigmatism makes reading street signs a challenge.  My left eye is worse.  I've worn contacts since I was in college and I've never shot without my contacts.  I now have glasses that are more "shooter friendly", but haven't shot with them on. 

I've sparred and my contacts have come out many times.  Of course at that range, can still spar, but their face can be blurry.     My buddy in HS would surf without his glasses.  He said he just paddles after shadows of the wave. 

I don't stock up on contacts.  In fact, sometimes I put off buying new pairs as long as I can.  I have many older pairs of glasses, but I don't think they'd work well for shooting.  I have a newer set of prescription Oakleys (was pretty cheap with my insurance), but there are many others that I wanted to try.

Yeah. I have a friend who got Lasik maybe 2-3 years ago and the prepper aspect was a factor. 

I have disposable contacts that are good for 2 weeks at a time.  But I wear them for a month instead.  And 1 glasses.  I never thought about looking into a back up pair as I am blind without them.

When I fly, I wear my contacts.  Have 1 set in my pocket.  And have my glasses in my other pocket inside a hard case.  This way if the plane goes down, I'm not totally blind if I end up on an island.  I would be screwed if I were on an island only with my contacts.

Only people with perfect vision get marooned in the movies.  And never go anywhere with Tom Hanks.

If you plan to use a gas mask, you'll need inserts with your vision prescription. Contact lenses with a gas mask are a big no-no.

For people with good distance vision, but who rely on reading glasses for up-close or small viewing, a hand-held magnifier is usually sufficient.  They make those that come with built-in lights or can fit in your wallet.  Makes a good back-up option if you are without or can't use your reading glasses.

Both my near and far vision sucks.  So if I got LASIK or PRK, I would still need reading glasses.  Which to me defeats the purpose of spending $3K per eye.

And my doctor said I have thin corneas so if my vision gets worst, I can't have the procedure re-done.

On a being ready note, I did try shooting at HFR at 3 & 5 yards with no contacts or glasses.  Target was blurry as hell, but I could make out the silhouette. It's more like I was guesstimating where my barrel should be pointing.  Kind of like playing arcade games.  You focus on front sight, but just guesstimate where the shot would be.

I had cataract surgery in my right eye about 14 yrs ago. The replacement lens corrected my distance vision.
The left eye is nearsighted. This is called monovision. I do not need to wear glasses any more.

We keep a set of spare glasses in our BOB's but we only need them for reading or seeing things up close (0-2.5 ft)
My rifle front sight is always fuzzy and it's even more fun when co- witnessing with red dot (which is also fuzzy).

Ahh, the excuses. . . 

I should have let you try shooting the gun with the EoTech.  That 1 MOA dot is always pretty crisp.  My T-1 always has some bloom for me.  The CompM4s is a little clearer, but not like the EoTech.  I've heard the T-2 and CompM5 are crisper, but they are also quite pricey. 

I have a couple of extra pairs of BCGs. Tough as shit, ugly as shit. Nobodies gonna wanna come close

The bloom is when the brightness is turned up in the bright daylight.

I've got this thing with eyes so I don't think I'll ever get lasik... that being said my vision isn't so bad that I can't see without corrective lenses.  Just can't make out street signs or faces at a distance.  Nothing that would slow one down in an end of world scenario where you can just shoot everyone lol.

I've been wanting to try shooting without my contacts, but I hate driving with glasses.  Maybe I'll try at one fun shoot.  My right eye isn't bad at all.  My contact lens is +0.5 I think, but the astigmatism makes reading stuff like street signs a challenge.  My left eye is much worse.  I think my left lens is in the +2.75-3.0 range. 

I have some friends that their face is blurry when standing maybe 12" away from the mirror without glasses or contacts.  Practically blind.

Basically this:
Not that severe since it's gotten better over the years.  Like I could never do contacts.... if I see someone putting contacts in I'll start to tear up, shit happens to someone's eye in a movie and I'll start to tear up.  If I need eye drops I need to close my eye, put the drops in my closed eye and slowly open it... it's a problem lol.
